I am in search of Malissa Sutton, born ca 1847, married Henry Borner ca
1860-1864. Henry died July 1869, leaving her with 3 small kids, 2 girls and
a boy. The boy died shortly after Henry did.
Malissa married George W. Bowen in October 1869. I have a copy of their
marriage record. And have them on the 1870 and 1880 census in Carroll
County, Democrat township. They moved to Arkansas and Malissa died in 1881.
The 1870 census shows her with $2000 value in real estate and George with
only $200 in personal property, and no real estate. They have only been
married a few months, so looks like George has moved into her home. So she
and Henry Borner must have bought some land. The postoffice is Wild Cat, in
Democrat twp in Carroll County.
I have been unable to locate Malissa anywhere except these 2 census records.
The other information I have about her comes from George W. Bowen's military
records and a younger child Florence Bowen's guardianship papers. These give
her maiden name as Sutton and that she was married to Henry Borner, by two
different men who knew her in Indiana, and knew her first husband, although
they did not say so, apparently they knew her before her marriage to know
she was a Sutton.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Jean Gilley
