Bonnie,
I tried to send this direct due to the size of the message. It was
returned as undeliverable so will try on the net.
I have also 11 children of John Duncan but only 5 of there spouses. Two
of the spouses are in my Wilson line. Along with Richard and Lydia I also
have Samuel Wilson and Rachael Dunkin. For Richard and Lydia I have them as
being married on May 14, 1818 and having 9 children. For Samuel and Rachael,
they were married in 1820 and was to have 6 children.
The following is from a book written by Lucille Kline from Cass Co. IN.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF RICHARD DUNKIN (2-4)
WRITTEN BY BENJAMIN SUNDERLAND DUNKIN
Richard Dunkin was born in Montgomery County Ohio, on January 29, 1795.
He was the fourth son of John (1762 -1821) and Elizabeth Sunderland Dunkin
(1770 -1843) who were married near Dayton, Ohio, about 1787. Elizabeth was
the daughter of Peter Sunderland and granddaughter of Samuel Sunderland who
came to America from Sunderland Hall, Yorkshire, England, it is believed.
Elizabeth was the oldest daughter of Peter Sunderland and Sarah who married
Daniel Wilson Jr. was the youngest daughter Richard's brothers and sisters
were William, John, and Peter older than he; Rachel, Benjamin, Michael, John
(it is presumed the older brother John had died before this John's birth);
Joshua, Polly, and David.
This story goes on to tell about Richard and his family. Some of this
information may not be correct. We have had e-mail contact with a descendant
of BENJAMIN SUNDERLAND DUNKIN and he differs with some of the information on
the Sunderlands. There was at one time a Sunderland Web Site where we did
get a lot of information. It seems there were two Peter Sunderlands with
daughters named Elizabeth, and this leads to a mixup in information. I
looked in my records but I don't have the address. It was titled John
Suderland of Halifa or something like that. I have copied most of the
information that pretained to our line. This is how it starts:

Descendents of John Sunderland, born in Halifax ca. 1680
This is a controversial lineage. The only known child of John and
Elizabeth, is Samuel, but other parents for Samuel have been asserted by
Howard Houser in The Royal Rebels. Benjamin Sunderland Dunkin, in his
biographical sketch of his father Richard Dunkin, indicated that the
Sunderlands were of "High Sunderland". If this is true- this would connect
them with the lineage of Matthew 1286 and most likely with the last
Sunderland owner of High Sunderland, Langdale Sunderland.
We are trying to assemble the sources for and against the lineage listed
below, but probably the safest tack to take right now is to be skeptical that
any of the proposed children of Samuel are really his. In particular there
are questions about Daniel and John. The John listed may be two different
persons. It seems safe to say that Peter and William were brothers, and most
likely sons of Samuel.
There are other controversial points.
o Was Elizabeth Sunderland the daughter of Peter or William?

The following is a small sketch of the Sunderland Family from the book "A
Sense of Place" by Centerville Historical Society, Montgomery Co, OH 1977 .
Edition found in Troy, OH Historical Society Library.
William Sunderland born 1730 in Yorkshire, England is thought to be a
descendant of the 3rd Earl of Sunderlandied He died 10 Sept 1828. He was
a soldier in the Rev war from PA. He had 2 boys that we know of:
1.Richard who lived in Washington Co, then Montgomery Co, and Butler Co,
OH.
2.Peter Sunderland came to Montgomery Co, OH in 1804. He served in the
war of 1812. He married Nancy Robbins and had 14 children. Nancy Robbins
father was Benjamin Robbins. Peter's youngest dau Sarah married Daniel
Wilson Jr 8 Feb 1821. His oldest dau Elizabeth married John Dunkin in
1787. Elizabeth and John are the parents of Richard Dunkin who married Lydia
Wilson the dau of Daniel Wilson Sr and moved to Carroll Co, IN.

I have found very little on the Dunkins, possible because of conflicting
spelling of Duncans. Lucille Kline had the following on John Dunkin--born
1762 Reading, PA died 1821 He was raised as an orphan by Quakers.
In regards to the Carrie G. Wilson, I don't know of any in our line.
There is another line of Wilson's that as far as we know do not tie with
ours. They had a Carrie Wilson but believe she married a Dr Elleman. They
also have a Glen with one N in there family and are also from Western Howard
County.
