This is not the list for the CARROLL surname; it is the list for Carroll co Indiana. You might do better directing it to the Carroll surname board, if there is one.?
Looking for information or relatives of Michael and Charles Carroll, who
immigrated to America in the 1800's. Michael was born about 1816 and Charles was
born about 1824. There parents were William Dalton Carroll and Catherine O'Dell
or Odell. I have no other info on them other than they had 5 other brothers. 1
stayed in Ireland, he was called Dalton Carroll, and 4 others, Richard, William,
John, and Francis immigrated to Australia.

This came through on another list I belong to and I thought it might be of interest to some of you. I have never seen it before.
Hi list,
For those with English ancestry the Yesterdays site has
thousands of names of persons who appear in official records within the
County of Derbyshire but who came from elsewhere.
Such records as Settlement Certificates which gave the name of the last
legal Settlement of the person to which the certificate belonged. This
document was presented to the Overseers of the new parish into which the
bearer of the certificate was hoping to settle in. Should that person
eventually become a burden on the new parish he was removed to the place the
Settlement Certificate said he came from.
Removal Orders were the instrument the Overseers used, these like the
Settlement Certificates are listed in Yesterdays.
School admissions for Derbyshire schools reveal that some children emigrated
to America. The are also listed, this is an ongoing project and no doubt
many more will be found an listed.
Law and Order reveals the ordeal some people went through at the hands of
some nasty people, some hoped to get away stealing washing from the hedge or
a goose or two. Again all listed in Yesterdays. Link below.
There are many more including Workhouse records. Some really hard stories as
people struggled to survive. Again not all were from Derbyshire but from
other araes of Britain.

I am investigating a few historical facts about downtown Delphi Businesses around the early 1900's. I have seen several photographs of the north east corner of Franklin and Market streets and there was a livery occupying the corner portion of the building. Nearly every photo indicates that Swatts Livery was the occupant. Swatts Livery was a stick frame building until around 1900 when a new brick and limestone building was placed on the same location. Swatts occupied the building until around 1911-1913 to the best of my deduction from examining the on-line photographic collection on the Carroll County Historical Museum. There is a Image #112453 that is dated 1912 and it is not the same building as the first stick framed building nor the later brick and limestone building which appears in photos apparently dated 1915. Some of the dates don't agree with other duplicated images in the collection, so the best date I would estimate it to be around 1912 to 1915. I have in my posses!
sion a pair of photographs that were taken of my great grand fathers team of draft horses outside the exact building the Swatts Livery occupied. There is a couple of problem with dating these photographs. The name that appears over the arch of the entrance seems to have the name Robbins or Resdins Livery not Swatts Livery. The streets are dirt rather than hard surface and there doesn't appear as if a side walk as is present in the other photos. These photos were taken by a photographer named Baker who apparently had a studio in Delphi as well. Swatts Livery also had a blade type sign over the arched entrance to the livery and in the photos I own there is no blade type sign and the business name is painted over the top of the arch. I would have guessed that the photos would have been taken around 1911. If anyone can shed any light on any of information above please reply to this thread. I am trying to sort out the time frame of this photo because it may provide many more val!
uable details about my great grand father and his early life. He was b
orn at the George Matthews home outside of Delphi in 1881.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide,
C.K. Matthews
