Not sure what happened to my response, but thank you to Connie for reposting it for you.
Regarding Rebecca Clapper, I found both her and Charles listed in the 1890 Van Buren Tax
Records. Rebecca (listed as an umarried woman) owned 40 acres in Section 25, Township 8N,
and Range 3E, this area is just north of Christiansburg. Charles is listed only as paying
taxes on personal property, but no real estate is attached to his name.
on April 30, 1891 Rebecca Clapper sold and transferred title of her 40 acres to Charles
Clapper for the sum of $300.
I found Charles still in possession of the 40 acres in the 1903 Tax Book. There are gaps
in our records after this date until about the 1930's now that I know he was in
Madison County in 1910, it would be easy enough to look at the deed records indexes
between 1903 and 1910 to figure out when he left Brown County.
There is no other reference to Rebecca Clapper that I am able to find after that date.
I have checked death records, cemetery records, obituaries, marriages, and Brown County
family names index for our collection of Early Brown County Families.
In that you mentioned Charles and wife Rachel Amanda - I did find a Divorce Complaint
filed by Rachel A. Clapper against Charles Clapper on March 30, 1898. I did not have time
to pull out the original files, but the abstract states: MARRIED Aug. 10, 1879 (Brown
COunty Marriage Book 3, page325: Rachel, nee Jarrett); seperated Dec 25 1897, he left.
She charges multiple adulteries and abandonment. They have six minor children: Armenie
J., age 18; Daisy, age 16; Harvey, age 10; Isaac A, age 15; William, age 5; and Bryan, age
7 weeks. (BC Court Records - Box 175, file 2)
There is also a divorce complaint filed by Charles Clapper against Sarah M Clapper - filed
May 3rd, 1879. Married Dec 16, 1876, Muskingum Co., Ohio; seperated Feb 27, 1877; she
left and now lives in Muskingum Co. He lives in Van Buren Township, Brown County (Box
93, file 15)
Sorry I was unable to find anything more about Rebecca Clapper. If you are interested in
any of the other documentation, let me know and I will look further.
