The Brown County, Indiana Old Settlers Reunion will be held on August 29 and
30, 2008 at the Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground in Bean Blossom,
Indiana. Admission, parking and entertainment are all FREE.
Friday's activities start at 3:00 pm with the opening ceremonies. The Brown
County band Smooth Country starts playing at 5:00 pm. An auction of
donated items from local businesses and individuals starts at 6:30. After
the auction, the Reel Tyme String Band will perform.
The festivities on Saturday start at 11:00 am and will continue until after
the big fireworks show. A variety of entertainment and activities are
planned for Saturday, including the pioneer awards for oldest man, oldest
woman, couple married the longest and person who has attended the most
reunions. There will be a car show and a variety of musical entertainment,
including bag pipers.
This year there will be 4 amusement rides for the kids, plus ponies. Food
will be available for purchase from several vendors. The traditional beans
and cornbread will be available on Saturday.
Old family photos and family histories will be on display. The Brown County
Genealogical Society and Brown County Historical Society will have various
Brown County books for sale. You are welcome to bring your family photos
and display them. If you want to display your photos, but do not want to
display the originals and do not have a convenient way to copy them, please
respond to this message. We will work with you to get copies of your
originals.
For the first time this year, we will have a round table and 8 comfortable
chairs set up so that people attending the reunion can sit at the table and
share their Brown County and family stories that have been handed down
through the generations and experienced by those still with us. A
production team from Butler University will record both video and audio,
with the goal of creating a book, and perhaps a CD, of the stories.
Proceeds from the sale of these items will be used for the expenses of
future Old Settlers Reunions.
Please bring your lawn chair and come join us!
