Can you tell me if Benjamin Smith had a son or brother born in Va before 1855 by the name
of William? Thanks Wanda

The mistake in Benjamin Smith's name was created by William Conrad who published
a very complete, but unsupported by documentation, listing of the Stitt family.
I have in my possession the original 1834 Bible of Benjamin Smith. Benjamin
wrote in the book and listed is name WITHOUT the Lo.
I also have an original of a questionnaire completed my Michael Harvey Smith for
his son J. Kent Smith in which he lists his father as Benjamin Smith WITHOUT the
Lo. Mr. Conrad has done our family a great disservice by allowing his error go
uncorrected. There is extensive research available by our family members on
Melvin Brice Smith by some of his children. I can put you in touch with them if
you contact me at dscpinc(a)sbcglobal.net
