Message Board Post:
I'm working on the Cunningham family that resided in Clark County Indiana up until
about 1830 than moved to McLean County, Illinois.
I have several questions concerning this family.
First my ggggGrandfather is James Cunningham who died in Lovington, Moultrie County
Illinois and is buried in the Cunningham Cemetery in that County his wife I believe was
Sarah Thomas. I think some of his siblings would have been Joseph, Robert, William and
Thomas. Father Joseph Cunningham. This from the 1820 Census Clark County Indiana.
I then find James, William, Joseph and Thomas and Father Joseph in the 1830 cesus Clark
County, Indiana.
I can also find a James Cunningham in the 1830 Census, Macon County, Illinois. Can this be
the same James in both 1830 census in different states or is there another James?
Robert is not in the 1830 Clark County Indiana with the others has gone to Illinois?
I found a divorce document on rootsweb for a Joseph Cunningham a resident of Monroe County
Indiana in the document he state is wife Elizabeth Matthews (Mathis) has left and went
with William Cunningham to the state of Illinois on or about September 1830. This seems to
be about the same time Robert and James went to Illinois.
Is William a brother to Joseph? and to James and Robert and his father being Joseph?
In the document it appears Joseph has 4 children still living, Fatima age 11, Irene age 8,
William Green age 6 and Jackson age 5
Irene married William C Cunningham son of Robert Cunningham and Apphia and Jackson married
Joannah(Jamima)Cunningham daughter of Robert Cunningham and Apphia,
Is Russel Cunningham son of James and Sarah Cunningham the Russell that would have married
Mary Cunningham daughter of Robert Cunningham and Apphia?
Very Confusing, I have been using Ancestry, USgenweb, Familysearch, Federal Census hard to
sort out what is a possible fact. Any other advise?
Thank you for any information
