I am doing research on the 82nd Regiment of the Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. In
the process of this research I came across a situation where Washington Mosier a soldier
from Nashville (Brown County) is listed as "shot by his comrade at Irwin Tenn. May
19, 1863". Then a little further down the list is a Hiram Reynolds also from
Nashville (Brown County)and it states he was "hung by sentence of G.C.M. August 12,
1863". I did a little research and found this "Hiram Reynolds, 82nd Illinois,
hung at 12 M [midnight] at the penitentiary Nashville for shooting a fellow soldier".
Does anyone have more information on either of these fellows. I did find when checking
census records that Washington Mosier had a family. I am curious as to the families
knowledge of how their relative died, did they know he was murdered?
