Hi
I'm trying to locate the gravesite of Rachael (Rachel?) Arwine Hackney & John R.
Hackney. Rachel and John show up in the 1850 Brown Co. Census. John married Mary Jane
(Elisabeth) Rogers on 12/1/1854 in Brown Co. John and Mary Jane show up in the 1860
census. I don't know what happened to Rachel between 1850 & 1854. My guess is
she died but I don't know that and have been unable to confirm her death or their
divorce. Really, I'm having a heck of a time confirming anything about her &
John, even their marriage. John died in 1872 ( I do have the papers that prove that) in
Bedford and was buried in Bartlettsville, IN. I'm from Bedford and traveled to Brown
Co. yesterday and checked out the books in the library that show who's buried where
but couldn't find Rachel's name. Can you give me any help? Thanks
Ken Hackney
FYI The census shows that John and Rachel were from Tennessee. Like I mentioned, I
haven't been able to confirm that. A couple of Hackneys (I think they were
Rachel's sons) migrated to Texas with the Arwines and are buried in the Arwine Cem. in
Hurst TX. I've had someone in TX check the cemetery and there is no gravestone with
Rachel's name there.
I've been trying to confirm John, Rachel, their marriage, their parents, etc. for the
last year and haven't had any luck. The closest I've came to confirmation is
Sarah Hackney listed John R. and Rachel as her parents when she applied for a marriage
license to William Ramsay. But that's only one source. Again, thanks for any help
you can send my way.
