Most of the books are in a locked case, but the librarian at the desk has the
key. You must remember that Brown County has a VERY small tax base. The number
of people who live there is small and something like 60 % of the land is off the
tax list since it is in state parks, state or national forests. As a result,
the library is under staffed and we have to cope the best we can. If a book
walks off, it won't be there for anyone to use. The librarians are VERY helpful.
Brown County is building a new library and we are looking for donation to expand
the genealogical area. If you have a million to donate, we'll see if the county
will name the library for you. Money is always a problem in Brown County, but we
do the best we can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey Sarah, do they still keep everything under lock and key though?
That has
always been my complaint when I go to the library in Nashville. Our own
library is a lot more secluded and is not quite so strict. When I saw my
donated books locked up, I could not believe it. Oops! Now, not complaining
but just wondered!
