Joni,
You're not likely to find the parents' names on a marriage that early in
Brown County. I have in front of me 7 marriages from 1843 to 1849. None of
them includes the parents' names. They have the name of the person who
married the couple (J.P. or minister). One of them includes the information
"known to be of age" for both the bride and the groom. Another gives the
name of the person who provided information so that the license could be
issued. But that's all there is!
My guess, based upon the census information that Karen provided, is that the
parents died when their children were young and the children aren't sure
where their parents were born.
Have you tried to find information on John M's siblings? Do you know for
sure who John's siblings were? If so, you might track down their
information and get the puzzle pieces to fit.
My only other suggestion is to research the probate records in Crawford,
Washington and Orange Counties. You may find John and his siblings
apprenticed out if their parents died. And maybe John's military records
will tell you something.
Julia

Hi, yes I already have found this information - problem is every single
source
record I find with him in it has differing information - the census
you pointed out has John's father, David, being born in TN, and his mother
born in VA - with him being born in crawford county, IN.
Then his death certificate says his father was born in NY and mother born
in
Indiana!
There are some other publications that say he is "of southern birth in
North
Carolina" - and that he had a famous geologiust uncle named William
(who just happens to have been born in ENGLAND!)
so needless to say I am going all over looking for birth information,
finding
absolutely NOTHING at all that can officially connect my John Denton
to ANYONE - PERIOD!
****sigh****
I need to know his PARENTS - where they were born, and dates. I am asking
for
someone in Brown County, Indiana to lookup the information based on the
marriage record of David DENTON and Eliza Emeline BOLT on 21 April 1841.
