Two letters from Paul M. Poling to William and Archie Campbell. I have transcribed as

Dear Friend Billie
Will now answer your letter I received a few days ago. I am all OK. Hope this will find
you the same. How is every little Thing back there. Every thing is all right here except
it is bretty warm drilling now, it will be cooler to morrow for it is raining hard here
now. How is the choring now or is it to dry to chore and how is the squirrels is there
several or not. If there is just go up to my home and tell them I said to loan you my 16
gage and you can sure get them then. Just as easy as we got the fowls at the shooting
matches ha ha.
Well Billie how are the boys taking the war Are they all willing to go and how soon will
them that passes the exam haft to go. If you don't pass the exam It will sure be hard
on you. Looking after the g_____ and wido____ And you will haft to kill all them
squirrel that I woul have killed if I hadent of went ha ha. Well Billie I have a good
time here. I go to town about every night. Well I will close for this time excuse poor
writing and answer soon

Will now answer your letter I received a few Days ago. Was very glad to hear from you. I
am well hop this will find you the same. Well arch I am having a good time enjoying my
self Fine. Have seen a lot of the country And exspect I will see some of the world if the
war goes on. But I am not crzzy about going to France. I would just as soon not go as to
go. There is Talk about us going to Florida. But nothing certain about it yet. Well
Arch this is a fine country here and Gettysburg is a fine town.
I went berry hunting last Sunday evening. Found several. How is the berry crop there?
Well arch I hated to hear about your dogs catching all the Foxes. If you don't want
the rest of them caught just put my old Roudie dog after them and he wont catch them but
do not get old sport after them for I believe he could catch one don't you? Well arch
