Thanks so much for this information. I would not be surprised to find that
this was a second marriage for John Brownfield. I know so little about the
family. My grandmother's maiden name was Bales and I am trying to figure
out how Elizabeth Bales fits into the picture. My mother can recall her
grandfather (Samuel Francis Bales) talking about "Granny Brownfield" and
this is the only Brownfield I can find in the area at the right time. I
know that he did not have a Brownfield in his sets of grandparents -- just
Bales, Chandler, Knight and Garland. With Elizabeth's maiden name being
Bales, I think she could be the "Granny Brownfield" he talked about and
perhaps that is how she was known in the family.
I do appreciate your help. You have given me some new information and
hopefully that will lead to more!
Thanks again!

Not related, but found some info that may help:

John Brownfield
This is at least a second marriage for John Brownfield. In the 1880 census
Elizabeth's household consisted of her son Perry and stepson James
Brownfield (age 24, KY - John's son??).
I am just wondering if Mary Maranda is also John's daughter from a previous
marriage. In the 1910 census Mary M. (Brownfield) Young states she has been
married 23 yrs. (abt. 1887), her age at the time of the census is 40 (b:
abt. 1870) John and Elizabeth were not married until 1874.
(1900 census listed Mary's b'date at Dec. 1871)
In the 1880 Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN census there is a "Mollie"
Brownfield, age 8 yrs., living with the Lewis Wymer family and listed as a
servant. Could be this is Mary M. Brownfield.
Both James Brownfield and Mary M. Brownfield state in the census they were
born in Indiana and their parents were born in Kentucky.
Didn't locate any info on John Brownfield. I hope this little bit
helps...............Karen
