Obituary, The Brown County Democrat - "Mrs. Martha Ann Morse, formerly
of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Franklin, in
Bloomington, early Wednesday morning [2-27-1935]. For many years she resided
a few miles west of Nashville and was the widow of Henry Morse, a Civil
War veteran, who died several years ago. Mrs. Morse was eighty-four years
of age.
Surviving are two children, O.P. Morse, Minonk, Ill., and Mrs. Sam Franklin,
Bloomington; three sisters, Mrs. Monroe Swindler, Monroe County, Mrs. E.J.
Sturgeon, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Mary E. Bales, of Carmen, Oklahoma, and
three grandchildren, Ruth Franklin, Mrs. T.W. Teagardin and Edwin Franklin.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m., by Rev. K.D. Vandeventer,
former pastor of the Nashville M.E. Church. Burial will be in the Needmore
Cemetery. Pall-bearers will be Alva Judah, G.M. Beck, Felix A. Dunn, Curt
Barrick, Forrest Whaley and Will Harmon. Honorary pall-bearers are L.C.
McDaniel, Marion Rogers, Fred Seward, Mart Hopper and Estes Mifford, all
of whom except Seward and Mifford, formerly lived in Brown County.
The casket will not be opened at Needmore." (March 1, 1935)
