I am looking for further information on a Scott family who resided in Monroe
County and Brown County in the mid 1800s. John Scott married Rebecca
Johnston on 21 Jul 1829 in Bloomington Monroe County. John Scott was born
in Kentucky about 1810 as was Rebecca Johnston. They had twelve children
(based on 1850 & 1860 census records):
Mary Ann Scott, born about 1831
Sarah Scott, born about 1832
Alexander Scott, born about 1834
Elizabeth Scott, born about 1836 [Married Silas Granthan Chandler 29 Dec
1854 in either Monroe or Brown County IN- I would like to know which!]
Isabel Scott, born about 1838
Nancy Scott, born about 1841
Elsa J. Scott, born about 1842
John M. Scott, born about 1844
Amanda Scott, born about 1847
Emily Scott, born about 1849
William H. Scott, born about 1852
Lewis C. Scott, born about 1853
The 1850 and 1860 census records show the family living in Brown County. In
the 1850 census, they are in Johnson Township (page 248). In the 1860
census, they are in Washington Township.
I have not been able to locate any member of the family in the 1870 or 1880
census except Elizabeth and her husband Silas Grantham Chandler; they are my
great-great grandparents.
I have checked the Monroe County Indiana Marriages 1818-1881 and cannot
determine marriages for any of the children. Does anyone have any
information on either John and Rebecca or any of their children after the
1860 census? I would be most appreciative of learning more about any of
them and especially about John and Rebecca Johnston Scott.
Thanks,
Connie
