Can anyone on the list tell me what relationship Peter Waggoner was to the
John Smith (d. 1849 Loyalhanna, Westmoreland county, PA) family in 1849?
I'm also interested in how Barbara Young fit into this family.
Peter lived in Adams Co. PA at the time his name was mentioned in John
Smith's 1849 Loyalhanna, Westmoreland Co., PA will. Among the things John
bequeathed his wife Catherine was
"...and all the Money in the Hands of Peter Waggoner of Adams County comeing
from her Fathers Estate." I understand that Catherine's (Katy's) maiden name
was Gooden, but I do not know who her parents were.
Items were bequeathed by John Smith as follows:
Item 1: general will statement about paying his debts and burial expenses
Item 2: ... to Catherine, my wife (several items were listed)
Item 3: one dollar to Elizabeth Funk, my daughter
Item 4: one dollar to Ann Becham/Zecham, my daughter
Item 5: "I give and bequeath unto the lawfull Heirs of John Smith (Decsd)
one dollar" (This is an interesting item)
Item 6: one dollar to Jacob Smith, my son
Item 7: one dollar to Catharine Litle, my daughter
Item 8: one dollar to Barbara Young, no relationship stated
Item 9: ... to Benjamin Smith, my son (several items were listed; Benjamin
was named executor)
The will was witnessed by Issac Hughes and Jacob Smel/Smil [Smith?] Sir
John's name appears to have been signed in old German script or maybe a
hybridized version of old German and English script.
