Dear Charlotte:
If I've read your message right we are of the same bloodline. I stumble upon your
response message to Tiffany Orem. You mentioned Andrew and Eleanor Morris Orem, of
Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester Co. MD. in the mid-1600's, being early ancestors.
I'm from the same bloodline. An old aunt, my father's sister did a great deal of
investigating and found that we are from Andrew's bloodline. Initially her real
motivation was to find out how a large parcel of land owned by the Orem's became known
as Salisbury, MD.
There is no documentation showing the sale or transfer of this parcel. I have old letters
and copies of maps showing the parcel of land and how it was divided up into smaller
parcels, all belonging to the Orem's. It must have been like something out of Gone
With The Wind. Some of the names were Fox Hollow and Orem's Delight those two stuck
in my mind because I thought they were wonderful names. They were wealth people, but my
aunt could never find out what happen.
It seems to me that the War of 1812 was the time period where everthing disappeared. That
war was fought on the Choptank River and the Orem's property which is now Salisbury is
right next to it. Doucments must have been destroyed, or something happened which I
can't figure out. Anyway, perhaps you have something you can tie to it, or this can
just be some added information about who your people were if you wanted to trace back
further, and now you know you have even more relatives out there!! One more thing before
I close, we are English and there maybe some Irish and French in the mix as marriages
progressed down the line.
Regards,
Ilene M. Orem
