From the GERMANNA list I obtained the above URL to a fascinating
article on
the various migration routes used by early American settlers moving from
the
eastern seaboard, over the mountains, and on to the west. Not only does it give
the geo-
graphical description, it also gives historical background and very
interesting anec-dotes about each route. It was written by Merle C. Rummel for the
Moravian Church, but it is an amazing historical record for all settlers. The
following "Roads, Trails, Routes, Traces, etc." are covered. You would probably
find it very interesting, It IS rather long. If you're not interested just
delete it. It IS good reading.
