Janet - Someone PROBABLY transcribed the information from the Brown COunty Cemeteries (1977) Book, onto the FindaGrave site. I am not sure of all the cemeteries have been transcribed, but it seems that everytime I look for something it is there, and the information in much the same as what is in the Cemetery Book. The REAL question is "Has anyone input the burials occuring after 1977?"

In 1913 Nellie May Hendricks wed Curtis W. Wheeler. They had a son Emerson
whom I see died in Brown Co., in 1996. I am wondering if there is anyone
from that family that might have some information on the Hendricks family. His
great grandfather bought the family Bible at the sale of his great
grandfather's in Belmont Co., Ohio. I have lost part of this family and my only clues
seem to be in Brown Co. Hope someone can help me. Jerilyn

Donna:
My grandmother was Rosie (Rose or Rosa) Thompson, daughter of Hester Ann
and William Thompson.
I know that Hester Ann's maiden name was David. Her father was John
David and her mother was Morning Weddle. This is all documented in the
Brown County Family study or the David line.
Several years ago, my sister and I visited Indiana in hopes of
unravelling some of our family history. We did find William Thompson's
grave in the Bear Creek Cemetery, along with many of the Weddle line.
Cyrus is also buried there. I copied the following from William's
headstone: William F (could be E) Thompson,
B: Jan 13, 1837, D: FEb 4, 1875; CO D. 25 IND.... Cyrus's information is
basic: Cyrus Thompson, 1867-1939. I have pictures of these, but they are
also packed away.
Rosie Thompson, first married a William Sandifer and there was one child,
Ira from that union. She married my grandfather, Pleasant Emmanuel
"Sonny" Robertson and they had four boys, my dad Fred was the "baby" born
in 1905. Pleasant had a daughter by previous marriage, Pearl. They
lived in Unionville and many of the Robertson's are buried at the Little
Union Baptist Church on Brummett's Creek Road in Unionville.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of the dates available right now
because everything is all packed up and in storage. Hope this helps a
little. I have a cousin, Max Robertson that lives in Unionville that may
be able to help a little. His email address is MRober5159(a)aol.com.
If you have any additional information on the Thompson line I would
appreciate your sharing it.
Thanks,
Ron Robertson

Donna -
On a whim - I checked the Monroe County 1850 Census-
Benton Township:
Cyrus Thompson age 41
ELiza Thompson age 38
John Thompson age 18
William Thompson age 13 (would have been born about 1837)
Mary E. Thompson age 5
Silas Thompson age 2
The William Thompson buried at Bear Creek Cemetery has the Civil War Shield Stone. So it SHOULD be Hester's husband William.
IT IS POSSIBLE: When the Cemeteries were surveyed in the 1970's - it was done with actual field work, and reading the information on the stone. There were/are no written records for these cemeteries going back that far. My mother was one of the surveyors for the historical society and I remember spending several summers tramping around the local cemeteries. The date listed as 1861 could be wrong! It could easily be something else. When it dries up some I will try to go out to Bear Creek and check the stone myself, I only live a few minutes away, but it is up on a hill and muddy. I will also take a look at the earlier newspapers (Brown County Library microfilm) for mention of him around the 1860's.
I do not have an 1870 Census handy, could also check there.
The Obituaries Book only goes back to 1914 (some earlier if they were reprinted at a later date - for a while the local paper reprinted obits for a "20 Years Ago Today" Column.
It seems likely that they are connected, just need to justify some more correct dates.
I am not sure if there is a DAVID family study in Brown COunty, it seems likely since they were an early family. I will check the library and let you know.
There are still a few David's on Lick Creek Road, which is next to Bear Creek Road. Many in that family drifted north to Morgan County.
I will get back to you if I run across anything more.

Hester's obituary says William died a short time after the civil war which ended in 1865. I think there must be another William Thompson who died sometime between 1870 and 1880. Either that or there are two William and Hester Thompsons.
Is the stone that says William T. Thompson which adjoins Cyrus Thompson's stone the same stone that says William Thompson 1837 - 1861?
Again, I thank you for your response. I didn't expect to receive so much information. You have helped very much in connecting my Puckett name to Hester.

(isn't that always the way it is;) There were many Thompson's in southern Brown COunty at about this time, although I haven't come across a connection yet. This wife's line in interesting, I am sure someone has researched it, and I am sure I am in it ... somewhere ... lol!

I bought a Brown County Family Study for Jacob Griner and in it Rosa C. Griner married Gordon Columbus Smith b. 1 Apr 1880, s/o Robert W. Smith & Violet Brown. I looked at 1880 census at Robert W. Smith & Violotta & they have a son John 2 months old.
Question did they rename John to Gordon Columbus Smith to honor Robert's older brother ??
I see Gordon C. Smith & Martha J. in 1880 census did he die shortly after?
I have seen in other families where a young child was renamed when an older relative died.Otherwise I can't find Gordon C. Smith born in 1880.
Another question, in 1850 census in Elijah M. Smith household is Gordon C. Smith 19 followed by Martha Smith 17, is this his wife or a sister?

Albert Ross Smith was the son of James David Smith and Eliza Ann Summa. He
