Laurie, Tradition in our family says, Mary was a sister of Levi Morgan. Levi married Priscilla Moore, sister of Sanford Moore. He is my gg grandfather. In the federal pension records for Sanford Moore there is a copy of marriage license 1845 to Mary Morgan. They were married by Samuel McConnell. There was a Mary Morgan b.1799 who married a Samuel McConnell? Would like to compare notes and ideas. After Sanford died Mary married a Willis Rogers. Sanford is buried in Louisville, KY.

Nelson Roger, should be 56 in the 1860 census as in the 1880 census he was 46.
The Nelson Roger related to Will Rogers was born in 1847
so he would not be the right one as my Nelson Rogers was born 1804 VA.
Did my Nelson died or move west I dont't know, would like to find out who his parents were. Many years ago a lady emailed me that she had went to the Brown County Historial place in person and said she found he was said to be part Cherokee and that there were two Margaret Rogers well my Margaret Rogers was Nelsons daughter and Margaret Maried Franklin Mullis. I have seen people on the internet that say she was born in 1936 it must be wrong because she would have bee n 12 years old when she married Franklin Mullis. Nelsons wife was Sarah (Sally) Hill born in NC.
Thank you for any help you can give me
Carolynharrison(a)charter.net
Can anyone help me
Dave, Was this Rogers related to Willis Rogers who was the second husband
of Mary Moore. (widow of Sanford Moore)
Ellen

In the 1850 Census, Johnson Township Brown Co., IN
Nelson Rogers 46 M VA farmer
Sarah 46 F NC
John 21 M IN
Lucinda 16 F IN
Alexander 10 M IN
There are 25 Nelson Rogers in 1850 Census & 32 in1860 census.
In 1860 there is a Nelson Rogers age 60 living with Allen Maloy next door to
Frank Mullis
in Washington Township Brown Co., IN.But different town & different age
would make me doubt this is same man.
I found none of ones in 1850 household of Nelson & Sarah in 1860 Indiana or
after.
Did this family migrate west?

Jeanette - I am interested in John & Sarah Adams also. My husband descends from their daughter, Sarah Jane ADAMS who married William O. HUNTINGTON. (They ended up in Cowlitz Co., WA).
Below is what I have on John and Sarah. It's not very satisfying. More research needs to be done to confirm the info. I have more info on their children and am willing to "share and compare." It's too much to put here. (I didn't include my sources here, but do have them, of course.)
Happily in Christ,
Harlene Soper Brown
JOHN1 ADAMS was born Abt. 1788 in Pennsylvania or Tennessee, and died Bef. Jun 25, 1841 in Brown County, Indiana.
He married SARAH DAVIS Apr 12, 1809 in Greene County, Tennessee, daughter of JOHN DAVIS and SARAH DAVIS. She was born 1791 possibly in Greene County, Tennessee, and died Aft. Jun 25, 1841.
More About JOHN ADAMS:
!!NOTE!!: Aug 06, 1850, There is a John Adams, age about 62, b. in PA listed in this census.

Cathy,
The marriage books only show bride, groom and date.
Book 1 (1836-1860) has:
Amos Greenlee & Mary Ann Mathis - October 14, 1855.
Franklin Mullis & Margaret Rogers - June 5, 1848
John Mullis & Indiana McKinney - March 6, 1846
Richard Mullis & Jesiah McKinney - March 22, 1844
Joseph Headrick & Sally Ann Mullis - December 26, 1839
James Little & Elizabeth Mullis - October 17, 1856
Book 2 (1860-1874) has 6 other Mullis marriages and a Greenlee, but no
Amanda
Book 3 (1874-1887) has:
Alexander Mullis & Amanda Fleetwood - February 25, 1884
and 4 other Mullis marriages
Elias C. Purtlebaugh & Amanda Greenlee - December 30, 1886
and 1 other Greenlee bride
Book 4 (1887-1900) has:
Thomas Rowlette & Amanda A. Mullis - January 25, 1898
and 11 other Mullis marriages
Three Greenlee brides
If you're interested in the Mullis family, it looks like you should buy the
books. Brown County marriage records start listing other information in
about 1882, so if you live anywhere near Brown County, a trip to check out
the original records might be very useful. The records list residence, age
next birthday, color (race), occupation, place of birth, father's name,
mother's name and marriage number (first, second, etc.).
Columbus Funeral Homes has:
Amanda Greenlee as the mother of Isaac Purtlebaugh, plus 7 other Greenlees
Dorothy Jane Mathis
Three Mullis listings
Isaac, Nettie & Samuel Purtlebaugh
Bond Funeral Home has:
Earl, Ida Jane & James Greenlee
13 Mathis listings
14 Mullis listings, including Amanda who died in 1936 and an Amanda who died
in 1956
3 Dine listings, but none of the first names you listed.
I don't have the obituaries book.
Julia

Nancy,
There is no George Beaty in the death book at all.
Hope this helps,
Judy

A couple of questions about the Vital Records books..
1. Will the books contain the exact same information that I would find if I go search those records myself?
2. The webpage says $35 each or 2 or more are $30 each. Just want to make sure, I'm reading this correctly, if I want Vol 1 BIRTHS & Vol 2 DEATHS, I would need to send $60 + $10 [ $5 postage for each book ] = $70.
3. The records in the books start with 1882. Does Brown County have earlier records?
Thank you
Cathy

I need information on Amanda Fleetwood born Aug. 1876 & Alexander Mullis.
It appears that I may have been searching in the wrong direction for a long time. My grandmother's parents were Thomas J. Rowlett & Amanda A. . Here's where I think I have messed up. I have always thought Amanda was a Mullis by birth. THere was an Amanda Mullis born just about the right time.
The 1900 Census shows my Thomas Rowlett & his wife Amanda. One thing that had bothered me was the oldest daughter was listed as " Dorthy Fleetwood ". Yet, the family name was Rowlett.
After a few e-mails back & forth w/ a very nice lady about Amanda Mullis things on my end weren't adding up.
I have found the record for Amanda Mullis & Thomas Rowlett's marriage on Dec.25,1897 in Brown Co,IN.
Amanda's daughter Dorthy Fleetwood was born before that.
After much more searching, I have a record for Amanda Fleetwood marrying an Alexander Mullis on Feb.25,1884.
If this is my Amanda [which I'm really thinking it is] that would explain her name being Mullis when she married Thomas Rowlett in 1897. It would also explain why all of my years of searching Amanda Mullis never made sense, my Amanda was a Fleetwood by birth. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is why would Amanda's daughter Dorthy be named Fleetwood & not Mullis? Dorthy was born in 1895 , after the marriage to Alexander Mullis & before the marriage to Thomas Rowlett.
Anyone have information that would help?
Thank you
Cathy

There is quite a bit about the Hovis family in general at the Brown County Library. Our Historical Society has a Hovis Family Study on the family if you want to buy it. The family settled in VanBuren township which is in the southeast part of the county. I went to a historical society talk about the basketmakers of Brown County, and the names Bohall and Hovis came up which is why I answered your post. They are becoming collector's items at least locally. What kind of info do you need on Seth Hovis?
