Hi Chris,
I too am a Milnes. My great grandmother was Mary Delilah Milnes. She was the daughter of William Milnes and Hannah Greenwood who came from Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. MDM married John Bowman. One of their children, Charles Thomas, was my mother's father.
I am particularly interested in this family and why they ventured to Oklahoma in the early 1900s. Do you know anything about this? I of course would like to share information.

For list members living outside Indiana, my apologies. Please hit the
delete button. For members living in Indiana, we have a golden opportunity
with one of Governor-Elect Daniel's
appointments.
For several years Dr Alan January, State Archivist, has been Co-Director of
the Indiana Commission on Public Records (ICPR) with Connie Hume and Judge
John Newman. The ICPR is the agency which creates and/or distributes state
forms and documents. The State Archives has been part of this agency for a
number of years.
Governor-Elect Mitch Daniels will select his candidate for ICPR
Director. As a long-time volunteer at the State Archives, I feel
comfortable suggesting to you that you consider an email to Governor-Elect
Mitch Daniel's website on behalf of Alan January's candidacy.
That website is: http://www.mygovmitch.com/nominate.asp
(If the link doesn't work, google "mygovmitch")
Besides including your personal information, you will need to include the
following:

Under Dr. January's leadership the volunteer program has grown from a
handful to about __ volunteers working to make Indiana records available to
Hoosier researchers. Several databases have been made available on-line,
and I believe several more would be on-line quickly under
Dr January's leadership. Researchers could request copies of documents the
existence of which is currently unknown to them. The State Archives has
vast collections to pique the interest of many. I sincerely believe much
progress would be made if Dr January were Director of the ICPR
In a day when access to many vital records is being legislated away, let's
take a positive step toward disclosure of public records to which we can
have access.

Thanks for your reply. I know a lot about some chappells but not my own. James Chappell seems to have sprung up from nowhere. He married Alice Bryant Meadows a widow with a small son in 1887 in Owensboro Ky and died after his last child was born in 1892 and before the 1900 census when his widow was married to a Justus Brunton of Meade co. ky and also a cousin of hers thru her fathers sister. Thats about all i know of the Chappells. sue

I have very little on the Chappells that lived in Brown County, Indiana. I think that they came from Kentucky with the Walker family. The Walkers came north from Henry County, Kentucky. There is a Chappell Cemetery here in Brown County on land that Abraham Chappell purchased from the Federal Government in what is now Upper Salt Creek Valley. It was at first called Walker Valley. I show that some of the Chappells were born in Kentucky.

Susan, according to the marriage records that I have, they were married June 17, 1872. I also searched my records on burials etc. and found nothing. I did find that a Hintin Forrester purchased land in Hamblen Township, Brown County November 1, 1847. I did not find anymore on the Forrester family. They may have moved to Bartholomew County. There was a Chappell family also in Hamblen Township, Brown County, Indiana. Have you traced the Chappell family that lived there??

My grandmother, Florence, was adopted by Thomas J. Wilkerson and his second wife Mary Gillaspy about 1903/04.
Could you fill me in the Wilkerson lineage? My mother has fond memories of T.J. and we visit his grave site, near Amity, everytime were in the area.
I tried to e-mail but it failed. If you have another I could contact you directly.
