Greetings all,
Well, I mentioned starting a new chat list for the residents of Brown
County, and I have. I am not trying to detract form this list, by any means.
The list I have started is for casual exchange, with no particular focus,
other than life in Brown County. If anyone here is interested, check out
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Brown_County_Station/
If you have any problems, email me off-list and I will see what I can do.
Hope that everyone has a good weekend,
Michael M

I am looking for information on one Elizabeth ELKINS who married a John FURGERSON on 29-JUL-1849 according to some Indexes I have seen on early Bown County Marriages.
They are, I believe, the parents Of John M. FERGUSON/FORGSON of Bartholomew County In.
John M. had them both listed as his parents in second 1931 marriage application in Bartholomew County. She was from Brown County. He was from Kentucky.
She may have married John RADER in 1860 Bartholomew County. An Elizabeth FERGISON and John RADER were married in 1860.
Who is her family? Please notice the diferent way diferent way of spelling FERGUSON, FORGSON FERGISON, FURGERSON
FORGUSON,even FORGIE.
Thanks, Jeff
Greetings,
I am Michael Murray, resident of North Bear Creek Road. I built my home
here myself ten years or so ago. I was a custom home builder, till a rare
genetic blood ailment made me mostly disabled. I live here with my wife and
daughter, and the usual assortment of dogs and cat. I am looking forward to
being a part of a home area list. Thanks ,
Michael

The Melody Hill Farm Zoo was in western Brown Co. located on Slippery Elm Shoot Rd. North of Lake Lemon. I grew up on a farm in the 60's that was about 5 miles away. I never visited Melody Hill, but by the time I was a teen I remember hearing It was in bad repair and the animals were starving. Rumers were that some of the animals had been turned loose in the neighboring Morgan / Monroe State Forrest to fend for themselves and among them was the bear that you spoke of. I spent lots of time in the State Forrest hunting and riding motorcycles, and never did see any of the zoo animals (although I always felt uneasy wondering about the bear).

My g-grandfather and g-grandmother were EliasPittman and Mary Ann Thompson/ Pittman. Eunice Pittman was my great aunt. She never married. I have the Beckwith pump organ and the orriginal letter of congratulation for her purchase dated Jun. 24, 1909 form the Sears, Robuck & Co. If you would like I can send a picture of both.
Elias Thompson owned a farm on Dead Fall Branch, south of Nashville In. on SR 135. This is where my grandmother Sarah Rebecca Pittman / Chafin grew up.
Are you related to the Pittman's or the Thompson's?

Am not researching this line, just trying to be helpful. In the 1870 census for Indiana, Brown county, Washington township, post office of Nashville, page 40, there was a family headed by Levi Knapp, 52, a wagon maker, born in Va, and included Sarah E, 42, keeping house, Va, Amanda, 11, Va, Sarah Walls, 7, Ind, and a female Marion, 6/12, Ind. In the 1880 census for Indiana, Brown county, ED 20, page 20B, there was a family headed by Levi Knapp, 61, carpenter, born in Va as were both parents, and included his wife Sarah E, 51, keeping house, born in Va as were both parents, his daughter Marion L, 10, Ind and his step daughter Sarah E Walls, 17, Ind. Evidently something must have happen to Susan. Hope this helps. Good luck. Don

Seeking any information about Henry CROSS of Van Buren Township, Brown County, Indiana, who was born in
1821 and died from an accident in 1864, leaving wife Mary and son Chester and daughters. Henry was a well-known
stone carver for cemetery headstones or tombstones in Brown, Jackson and Batholomew counties, IN. I am a cemetery restorationist (specifically tombstones) and very interested in Henry and his life. We have a book written about him in 1966 by the Indiana Historical Society, but we're still seeking further information about Henry and his talent of beautiful tombstone art. Thank you.
