Obituary: “Mrs. Estella Hopper, wife of Mart Hopper, died in the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis last Thursday, May 12, following an illness of several weeks of pneumonia.
Mrs. Hopper was born May 11, 1874. After uniting in marriage with Mr. Hopper, the couple made their home and reared their family in Nashville, living in the property that is now owned by the Nashville-Brown County Library. The Hopper family was one of the most prominent families of the town and county. They moved to Indianapolis about the year 1918, where they have since made their home.

Hopper, Boston, Mass; Myron Hopper, St. Louis; Ira William Hopper, San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Etta Ogden, Wooster, Ohio, and Mrs. Iris Crays, Rockville, Indiana. She is also survived by one brother, Ira Taggart of Tampa, Florida, and ten grandchildren. Private funeral services were held last Saturday at the Montgomery Funeral Home in Indianapolis with Rev. William F. Rothenburger of the Third Christian Church officiating.

Obituary: “Martin J. Hopper, formerly of Nashville, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Etta Ogden, at Quincy, Ill., last Saturday, after an illness of several months. He was seventy-three years of age and a twin brother of Mrs. James M. Jones and an uncle of Mrs. Leila David, both of Nashville.
‘Mart,’ as he was known by his many friends here, was born in Nashville. When a young man he united with the Christian church and was active in social and religious work throughout his life. His wife, before their marriage, was Miss Estella Taggart, and she and Mr. Hopper were both musicians, as were other members of their family. He at one time was the instructor of the Nashville band. As a young man he was much interested in sports and for a number of years was a leading out-fielder in the old Brown County Hustlers.
For several years Mr. Hopper was a clerk in the general store of his father-in-law, Frank P. Taggart, in the building now occupied by the Miller Pharmacy. During his business career here, with his friendly disposition, he enjoyed the high esteem of all our citizens. Following the death of Mr. Taggart, he operated the store under his own name for several years before he took stock in and became a salesman for an Indianapolis wholesale firm. He and his family moved to Indianapolis thirty-one years ago.
A few years ago Mr. Hopper retired from business and for five years lived with his son, Rex Hopper, who was a professor in the university at Austin, Texas. Rex now resides in New York. Mrs. Estella Hopper died at the family home in Indianapolis several years ago. A daughter, Mrs. Glen Bond, wife of a former Nashville boy, also died at her Indianapolis home several years ago.
Surviving are four sons, Rex D. Hopper and Myron T. Hopper, both of New York, and Frank M. Hopper and Ira W. Hopper, both of Indianapolis, and two daughters, Mrs. Etta Ogden, Quincy, Ill., and Mrs. Iris M. Grays, Indianapolis.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Montgomery Mortuary in Indianapolis at 2 o’clock. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis [Marion Co., IN].
Among those attending the funeral were Mrs. Leatha Walker, Miss Eudora Kelley, Mrs. Leila David and Paul Adams, also Mrs. Ralph Woods of Morgantown.”

Thanks to the bad weather I have had some time to work on the website
of the Brown County Genealogical Society. New things include a link
to the BC Public Library which now has its catalogue online. It is
under Other Brown County Items. On the title page is a link to some
pages which gives information about starting a cemetery association.
Books about Brown County may be found under BOOKS and then MORE BOOKS.
Have fun !

House Bill HB1540 is now in committee. It is concerned with privacy
and contains the provision to close the Birth and Death Records of the
state of Indiana for 100 years ! These are public records made at
public expense and should stay open to the public.
There are provisions for limited access to the records, but it is very
limited. There is an amendment which would allow genealogists access,
but the definition of who is a genealogist is to be left up to each
county. This amendment is NOT acceptable.
To find out more about HB1540 go to : Indiana General Assembly
and you can look up the bill and the legislators.
The sponsors of the bill are Eric A. Koch of Dist 65 and Peggy Welch
of Dist 60. Let them know as well as your representative that you
oppose this bill. Act now ! There was a hearing on the bill today
Wednesday, 12 February.
Register you concern. If you live out of the state of Indiana, please
write to the sponsors of the bill. Vital records are public records
and should be available to all. Closing the records will not prevent
identity theft or slow down a terrorist from action. Vital records
are not needed for such crimes. The records should be available to
genealogists. representatives of the press as well as the general
public.
Take action now !

Was wondering if you had any information on Needmore Cementary. I am looking this info up for a friend of a friend. They are actually looking for an obituary for a Nancy Elizabeth Poling. Born 02-14-1833---Died 12-09-1906.
If you have an information it would be greatly appreciated. I don't do geneology to speak of...so any ideas about where to find an obituary would also be greatly appreciated. I thank you for your time.
