Ginny, Sorry I couldn't find Amos or Rebecca Lawson. The only Lawson's I could find around this time in the late 1800's were buried in the Terrill Cemetery in Washington twp. and this is in the same area you're probably talking about but your couple wasn't listed. I can give you the other names if you need them.

I am looking for any Mansfields from Brown County. My great-grandmother was Sarah Eliza (Mansfield) Kindred. She is listed on her death cert. as being born in Brown County, IN. in 1850. Her father was James Mansfield, also listed as from Brown County, IN. Her mother is listed on the death cert. as unknown from Brown County. The information on the death cert. was provided by her children, so I imagine that James's wife died young, since the grandchildren didn't know her name. Just guessing. ANyone have anything on these people? I would sure love some help. Thanks. Nancy
The people who have recently subscribed to the Brown Co mail list
should take a look at the webpage of the Brown County Genealogical
Soceity, Inc. It has indexes for several censuses, a link to early
marriages and a LOT more.

I also used the Bev. Nelson Rambo book for much of my work. Also, I gleaned some information from a privately-published newsletter -- Rambo Family History: Mattie Crooks Pretage's Maternal Line by Mattie Crooks Prestage. Another contact that proved very helpful was a Bruce Ludwig of Juneau, Alaska. His email is bludwig(a)ptialaska.net; It has been 2 or 3 years since I communicated with him so I don't know if the address is still good or not. Several people on the www.genforum.com Rambo family board gave me misc. facts as well; have you tried this web site yet?
Where was Joel's 1812 marriage performed: Pennsylvania or Ohio? As far as marriage dates, I wouldn't put total stock in the records. I've found marriages on my side in that time period (in Ohio, no less) where the date was after the children; as best I can tell, the couple took up housekeeping following some kind of personal, informal ceremony then had it officially recorded when it was possible (which may have been years later due to the remoteness of the settlement, scarcity of officials, etc.). Considering the uniqueness of the name Joel in the Rambo family, I've got to believe this one is the "right one."
Solomon Rambo, which is my line, migrated from Muskingum County to Brown County, Indiana, sometime in the early to mid-1850s. An old family tradition related to me by a relative (Hazel Settle, age 100) says the Rambo family linked up with a huge wagon train that came from Ohio to newly-opened lands in southern and central Indiana. I also know of several other Ohio families in my line (Sprague, Eickleberry and Truex) who came at nearly the same time and settled in the exact same area of Brown County. Your mystery man in 1835 may have been an adventurous member of the family who discovered the charm of Indiana, wrote back to the folks and got the later folks to come over for the good land, opportunity, etc.
I've heard the same tradition of Scotch-Irish on my side but have never been able to do anything with it. I know, in my case, the Sprague family was Scottish-English while the Eickleberry side was mostly German.
I'll keep you in mind as I work on the family; if I find anything, I'll definitely let you know. Hang in there......

Rhonda, thank-you for your kind offer to do cemetery look ups.
We're trying to find to find an Amos Lawson, wife Rebecca Aynes Lawson. The last time we find them is in the 1860 census. 1850 they where in Brown County, 1860 Monroe. Perhaps, they died in Monroe and where buried in Brown.
Many thanks, G

Hi Jim - Thx for the reply. I see who your "George (John George?)" & "Solomon" Rambo are & who his siblings are from the Ron Beatty/Bev Rambo family tree.
I have tried to make a connection to the "Joel Rambo" who is brother to your George, but the connection doesn't work yet. The Ron Beatty info. shows Joel marrying Eliz. Martin in 1812. My George was born 1810. They could have had him before marriage or marriage date incorrect, or who knows! Either way, he is not shown as a child of Joel & Eliz., tho it does seem strange that they were married in 1812, and first child not born until 1816. I am not sure of the source of the info in the Beatty records, so I'll have to look into that a little further.
Anyway, did any of your family end up in Indiana? I have a mystery "John Rambo" who owned land in Madison Co IN in 1835.
I would like to be able to connect to the Sweden/Peter Gunnarson Rambo line, but not enough proof yet. Also, some of my Rambo family claims that they are of Scotch-Irish descent.
Is the info. you have from the Ron Beatty/Bev Rambo book? If not, I would welcome anything that you have. my email is: susana(a)pender-engineering.com.
Thanks again, cuz! (90% chance anyway!)
Susan Alexander

I've got several ideas for you Susan, all of which I think you're gonna like. The key is Joel Rambo. Joel was born Nov. 22, 1788, and was a brother to my George Rambo, born June 17, 1777. This George was the father of my Solomon Rambo (b. 1819) who was married to Elizabeth Moore. Anyways, both Joel and George were the children of Moses Rambo (b. 1754) and Elizabeth (b. before 1755). As Joel wasn't in my direct line, I don't have who he married or where he settled; but I gotta believe he can be found there in Muskingum County. As for Moses and earlier generations, I have much. Drop me your email and I'll gladly send you a copy of my stuff on the Rambo family. As well, if Joel is your line then you and I are distant cousins! Glad to meet you cuz!!!

Thank you for looking for me, I do appreciate it. I was wondering which of Levi & Catherine's children the reference was made to and what. They had 13 children, I believe. If I write Brown County, would they look for a death over alot of years. Also would they search for a divorce? I have gotten marriage licenses from them, but I knew the dates. As a long-shot, I am checking to see if you have any info. reg. ancestors/siblings of your Solomon Rambo. I have a George Rambo (Gr Gr Gr Grandfather) B. 1810 in Zanesville, Muskingum Co, OH. By 1830 he settled in Hamilton Co. IN.
Am trying to find how he links to the OH families, but haven't had much luck. I have a Bible that I believe states that his father was named "JOEL RAMBO". Have already tried to link him in Beverly Rambo's book. Any ideas? Thanks.
