Further correction, George Melvin Roberts' mother was Rebecca Pittman not Susan. His father's name was Otho H. Roberts and they were originally from Brooke County, WV. George's wife's name was Susanna Petro. Information given by second hand parties can get confused, it is best to double check against other sources.

Does anyone on the list have any information on the family of Joseph Bruce
listed in the Van Buren Twp of Brown Co. in 1860? His wife was Louisa(nee
McFarland?) and there were 3 children still at home--John, Abner and
Joseph. Would appreciate any information on them.
Thanks

Subject: Allen Co. Public Library Closing Announcement
Closing Date Announcement Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public
Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana
The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library will
close for relocation on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 6pm. The department
will remain closed through the month of January 2003. This is to allow time
to move all our materials to our interim location. The current building will
be going through renovation and expansion.
WILL MATERIALS BE AVAILABLE?
All our research materials will be available up until Saturday,
December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can
move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at
that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready
for research.
WHY WILL LIBRARY BE CLOSED?
Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at
once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you
are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you
arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved
pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be
available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the
materials you are interested in will be available until we close on
December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003.
WHERE WILL THE INTERIM LOCATION BE?
The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200
East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance
Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be
limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across
the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity.
WHAT WILL THE INTERIM LOCATION BE LIKE?
One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the
genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will
be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will
not have to be paged; the shelves will be open.
HOW LONG WILL THE LIBRARY BE IN THE INTERIM LOCATION?
The projected time frame is 2-3 years.
HOW CAN MORE INFORMATION BE FOUND?
Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us phoning the
department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation
information.
This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers
alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the
highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and
in our newly renovated library.
For further contact, please phone the department (260-421-1225) or email
Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at
cwitcher(a)acpl.lib.in.us or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical
Genealogy Department-ACPL at skaufman(a)acpl.lib.in.us
Please publish and/or pass this information on to all others that might be
interested. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department
Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department

65) PING, MAYHEW posted 1/1998
I am looking for information on the PING family and the MAYHEW families who lived in Brown County in the 1850's to 1871. My husband's great-great grandmother was Nancy PING. Eventually, she married a Westley MAYHEW. Nancy PING and Westley MAYHEW had Pertle Mayhew SHAW(b. October 02, 1871), Bessie MAYHEW, and Rose MAYHEW. If anyone has information on the PING or MAYHEW families, please e-mail me as soon as possible. Pertle MAYHEW changed his name to SHAW after his first marriage. We don't know if his stepfather was a SHAW, and that is why he changed his name? Thanks! Christina West

I am looking for information on these surnames. I am looking for a John Ping who fathered a child with Rose Reddick in 1918. Her name is Dorothy Ping. It says on her birth certificate that Rose and John were both 35 years old. Rose was born 1881 in Kentucky. Her sister Ida Reddick was also her best friend. She married Pertle Shaw. He was the son of Nancy J Ping and John Westley Mayhew. Although Pertle was 8 when the marriage took place. If anyone has any of these surnames that married in their families willl you let me know. Because they had to live near each other or something. Or if anyone has any information on these people that I have names PLEASE let me know. Thank you

Mary Ann Thompson [dau. of Abraham and Elizabeth Schafer Thompson] was married to Elias Pittman according to her death record. They are in the 1920 Clay Twp., Barth. Co., IN Census [Elias, Mary Ann and [dau.] Eunice. I have a little info on this family.
Can someone check a marriage date for me. I have conflicting dates for the marriage of Porter Isaac Deckard and Sibal/Syble/Sible Relief Axsom.
Family Studies of Brown County lists date of marriage as 14 Dec 1916 and quotes Brown County Marriage Record Book 8-204
Porter Deckard's obituary state he married 14 Dec 1915.
