John:
Thank you for your reply. Glad to know the proper spelling of your surname.
I will correct it in my records. My sources were a tattered piece of paper
written in 1913 by my grandmother, Grace Gibbons Bailey, and a
less-than-perfect census microfilm!
I appreciate your sharing with me your relationship to Rev. Wm. Hamblen. I
just looked at the Hamblen information on the LDS site and found it quite
interesting. Though I noticed that they have 5 listings for John Mullins
Hamblen, same birth date and father, but 3 born in VA and 2 Brown Co., IN.
I would love to see a copy of the Hamblen and Allied Families that you
mentioned! I am about 150 miles from the University of Missouri at Columbia,
so probably won't get the opportunity to access it there. Is this a book or
manuscript that is available for sale? I would be very interested in
purchasing a copy if it is.
The prospect of learning anything about the family of my great grandmother
Wilma Satterthwaite is very enticing!
Thanks again.
Barbara
Thanks Barbara! Good luck with your research.

Ron,
Hi. I don't know the name Phoebe Ann Poling. I've looked
through my database & don't find it. I don't suppose you have
her parents names.
Sounds like we have some common Chitwood ancestors.
Do you have any good information about James & Martha
White Chitwood? I have seen them listed in the Chitwood
records at the Mormon (LDS) website. I'll be glad to
share what I have if you're interested.
Thanks for the e-mail!

Barbara,
Rev. Wm Hamblen, en is the correct way for Brown Co. Hamblens, descended
from Job's eldest son, John Mullins Hamblen, and I descend from Job's second
son, Uriah. You should see a copy of the Hamblen and Allied Families. I
gave a copy to the University of Missouri-columbia library. There is a lot
in that book about Rev. Wm and the Satterthwaites.

Hello John:
Thanks for your response to my query about my Baileys in Brown County IN.
Another Missouri connection, how nice! My husband's cousin Leslie Grimes
graduated from Rolla, but that was probably 35 years ago!
Are you perhaps related to the Rev. Will Hamblin (I show it spelled with an
"i" rather than an "e") of the United Brethren Church, who performed the
marriage of my grandparents, Silas Bailey and Wilma Satterthwaite 25 January
1866 in Brown Co.?
I found many Hamblins on the 1870 Brown Co. census that my local library
borrowed for me. Silas/Sylas and Wilma Bailey were on that census, living in
Hamblin Township, P.O. Cleona, page 38 #277. Numbers 278, 279 & 280 were all
Hamblins.
I have had little success yet in finding anything about either family before
prior to their marriage.
Thanks again for your response, and any possible help you can give me in my
search.
Barbara Moses, Catawissa, MO
Hi everyone!
I've noticed that several people have mentioned the Chitwoods. While
researching the Days, I've come across an Ida May Day who married G.
Richard Chitwood in 1886 in Brown County.
Their children were Ira C., Walter J., Nora B., Ora J., Maude May,
Nellie A., and Ralph E.
Ora J. Chitwood knew my husband's grandmother, Elsie May Day.
Do any of these people sound familiar? I would love to share
information with anyone who is interested...
Thanks!

Marty:
I am interseted in several of your surnames you mentioned in the Brown
County Posting:
My ggg grandfather Stephen Robertson married Winnie Chitwood in Tn in
1800. Winnie (b. 1780) is the daughter of James Chitwood (fromt he
Mathias Chitwood line) and Martha White.
The Richardson's and Robertson's are also related through James
Richardson that married Rebecca Roberston in 1849. Several other
Richardsons appear in this lilne.
I am also interested in your Poling surname. My grandmother's (Rosa
Thompson) first husband was a William Sandifer. They had one child
together Ira Sandifer b.
Williams parents (and I have been unable to prove any of this other than
Ira's date of birth) were (possible) Thomas J. Sandifer and Pheobe Ann
Poling. Can you help me out on any of this?
Hope some of the above fits in with your line. Please let me know.

Oops, I forgot to anwser your question about Dr. Veazey. I am pretty
sure we are related somehow. I have a book that traces quite a few Veazey
lines back to one family. If Dr. Veazey is interested, I would be willing to
do a look up for him.
Have a good day - Laura
John-
Its nice to hear from you. My snail mail address is : Laura Veazey PO
Box Jacksonville, FL 32235-1061. I appreciate you doing this for me. My
local library does not carry any census records or indexes for Indiana, so I
have to impose on others to get the information for me.
I am sure my Grandfather would love to hear from you. I am hoping to
get up to Indiana to see him sometime this fall. My uncle, Ron, was there to
see him about a week ago.
Please take care and again thank you for your help. - Laura
Laura,
Give me your snail-mail address and I will sendcopies of the 1880 census
pages which have William Kirts and Eli Shults records.
I haven't seen Ernie lately. I will give him a call and tell him we are in
contact.
Incidentally, years ago there was a Dr. Veazey in Avilla, IN. Any
connection?

Gosh, went to the Brown Co. earlier censuses and located Van Buren and Bingo!
Found them: You should buy my book! GOSH! Here is what I found!
On page 338 of the Brown Co., IN Census, Van Buren Twp., SH#11; SD#2; ED#19;
taken 14 June 1880 we find:
HH/Fam#89/90 William Kirts 30, farmer b/p IN; no parents given; Hannah 22

Upon checking the earlier census, 1860 we find that there is older Shultz
family and is more than likely the parents of your Eli. Now comes my sales
pitch. I have the publication "1850 and 1860 Brown Co., IN Census" which is
two books in one. I am also forwarding a price list of my available books.
Your Kirts/Kirtz family is also in 1850 and 1860 Brown Co.

I do research within my own library which I have a vast amount of
source material. On micro-film, censuses, WPA births, deaths & marriages
along with supplements for many counties; CD disks on the social security,
early marriages of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, Michigan;
Census indexes for 1840 Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio; some
genealogies. My library has a few histories of counties, files of early
court records, etc. of several southern counties. Always send a pedigree or
family group sheet on the ancestor you wish me to search. Price Per sur-name

THANK YOU!
Carol- I do not have a 1880 Brown County Census Index. However, I do know
both families were in the Van Buren Township in the 1860 Brown County Census.
I hope that helps. - Laura
Hey John and All! I have the census along with the reader! However, no
index on this. Could the party wanting the census read, give me information?
What would really help is the page number but even if they know the township
that the lookup was from, would help also.
I have the 1830 through to the 1920, but not the 1910 as it was impossible to
read anyway.

Hello Roy:
Nice to hear from someone else in Missouri with Brown Co. connections. Will
contact you off-list so I don't bore everyone else by repeating myself!
Barbara, also in Missouri
