When you come to Nashville be sure to visit the Brown County Public
Library. It is on Main Street across the street from the fire station.
Greenlawn Cemetery is about a block away on down Main Street toward the edge
of town.
There are several publications that you will help you.- especially the
collection of obituaries.
We are proud of out collection which is housed at the public library.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this mailing list and have just recently begun
genealogical research.
We have quite a few direct ancestors who lived in Brown County during
the 1800's and are buried there. I believe one such fellow by the name
of George Marshall is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Is
that a big cemetery?
We are planning a little trip to Brown County over the Easter holiday
and would like to visit this cemetery. I was wondering if someone could
please do a look-up for me(in a compiled cemetery book?) to see if there
are any other Marshalls buried at Greenlawn. I'm hoping that perhaps
one or both of George's wives are buried there as well...Adaline Hodges
Marshall or Florence Hopper Marshall.
Also, we have Upholds(buried in the city cemetery of Columbus) and
Days(buried in a little cemetery located in Yellow Wood State Forest)
who lived in Brown County years ago. I do know that there are Days,
Chitwoods, and Roses who are related to us that still live in Brown
County.
Thank you so much for your help!! If there are any Marshall/Uphold/Day
descendants
reading this letter, I would love to share information and pictures with
you.
Best regards,
Janine Crandell in Illinois
Hi
kathy could you check for Mulhon's in Green lawn cemetery. I heard they were
there but didn't know where it was. I'm also having trouble finding Henry
Thorton Harden's grave. Would you check and see if its there? Thanks Cindy
I am looking for any information on:
Joseph Bridgewater b. @ 1800 in Kentucky. He is the son of Levi Bridgewater
and Patience Stillwell. He married 1. Frances Fisher and 2. Nancy Smith.
His daughter Debora married Samuel Pruitt in Jackson County, Indiana.
I have lots of information on the Deaver family and I am willing to share.
John Freese b. 1806 in Coshocton County, Ohio. He is the son of John
Freese/Friese and Anna Maria. John married Nancy McFarland in Coshocton
County. They are buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Brown County. Their son was
William Henry who married Abigail Deaver. Abigail was the daugther of Lewis
Deaver and Elizabeth Read.
William H. Kirts married Hannah Taylor in 1870. I have been told from one
source that William is the son of William P. Kurtz and Nancy Pulliam.
However, another source says that isn't true. William H. shows up in the
Brown County census with a mother, Nancy, a brother, George W., and a sister,
Julia A. Hannah is the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Taylor and Mary
Elizabeth Mobley from Belmont County, Ohio.
Samuel Pruitt wa born in 1828 in Washington County, Indiana. He is the son of
James Pruitt and Sarah Martin. He is the grandson of Archibald Pruitt.
Samuel married Debora Jane Bridgewater.
Eli Shultz was born in 1822 in Belmont County, Ohio. He married Catharine
Beck in 1848. He died in 1869 and is buried in Cain Cemetery, in Brown
County, Indiana. I have yet to track down his parents. Catharine's parents
are said to be Daniel Beck and Rosana Taylor of Belmont County, Ohio. I have
yet to track them down.
All of these families arrived in Brown County between 1850 and 1860. They all
lived in the Van Buren Township. I am willing to share any information, and
would appreciate any information on these families.

Dear Janine, I checked the Brown Co., IN Cemetery Book published by the Brown
Co. Historical Society, Inc. 1977; On Page 139, "Greenlawn Cem. located in
Washington Twp., Recorded Jan 17, 1973. Updated through 1975 - It is located
NW1/4 of Sec 19; T9N R3E. At east edge of Nashville, north of Main St.,
between Artist Drive and Grassy Creek Road. Maintained and operated by the
Cemetery Assn. There are some unmarked graves in the old section. It is the
LARGEST cemetery in the county.
Now, I found a few Marshall's. Byron, George W., Father Born Oct 8, 1828 died
Aug 24, 1905 Served in Co. G., 4 Ind Vol. Mexican War 1861 Co. H 82nd Ind 1865
Also; Jesse; Lizzie A; Mary; Sarah E, ossw Byron W.
You mentioned Florence Marshall. Within the Brown Co., IN Obituaries Books,
Volume I, Page 844, I located: "Florence Marshall, died at Grenora, N.
Dakota, she was 75. Word of her death come July 10, 1943, her sis, Mrs. James
M. Jones. She will be remembered here as Florence Hopper". Brown Co.
Democrat July 15, 1943.
Hope this helps.

Sarah Clevenger and I are both tracking the Adams family together..
We now have quite a few people on our mail list. Let's have everyone

researching. Be sure to list the surnames in the subject area for easy

Dear Cindy, regarding your Henry Hardin that married Mary Crouch. Have you
checked Bartholomew Co., IN 1850? They were married there according to the
Bartholomew Co., IN Marriages. I found this in my own publication,
Bartholomew Co., IN Marriages (1821-1920), July 24, 1850, Book C-4 Page 309.
It is likely they resided there then also.

I have Henrietta's birthdate as 18 July 1859 Brown Co IN. I
believe
with that date,
she would be the daughter of Amanda Berry and Levi Noblet.
Henrietta
died 30 Jan 1942 in Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL and was buried
in Point
Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek (outside Decatur), Macon Co
IL. She
married 1) George Hedrick
2) George Ault, and 3) 1910
Macon Co IL Charles Souders. I believe that Henrietta was a
Mennonite
because
my mother and another older family member remember her
travelling to
Lovington to
attend church - which is where the Amish and Mennonite
churches are in
the area.
She and her last husband spent the last few years of their
lives in a
Masonic Home
in Sullivan IL.
I have George Hedrick's death certificate and assume it is
as correct as
the person
providing the information. George resided at 702 and 1/2

I haven't yet found anything to indicate he was involved
with the
Salvation Army
which I believe was referred to in Grover Brown's book.
I am through Grace, George and Henrietta's daughter, then

Sandi Shockey's book is great and has alot of information in

it last summer

done
wonderfully.

Although Nancy Jane Walls, widow of Uncle Washy Sipes, died in 1913, no
parents were listed on her death certificate. As far as I know, no one
researching the Sipes lnow anything about her other than what is listed in
the Brown County records
