Hi Mary, I think we can solve this mystery in time.
Here are the key pieces to the puzzle as I see them:
1. Jacob Parr is living next to Jacob Parr in the 1850 Boone, IN census. The younger Jacob
names his daughter after the older Jacob's wife, i.e. mother. The older Jacob is born
in PA. the younger Jacob born in TN. They appear to be father and son.
2. Jacob Parr lists his father as being from PA in the 1880 Boone census. This is
significant.
3. Jacob Parr's brother David lists his father as being from PA in the 1880 Hamilton,
IN census. Further proof of the PA connection.
4. There was a line of Pair men in NC that migrated through SC and into GA. Some but not
all eventually changed the spelling to Parr - but I don't know how this might be
related to the Mathias Pair will that you have. I don't think there is any
connection.
5. I guess we have to ask? Could the older Jacob Parr born in PA be Jacob Matthias Parr? I
really doubt it. Could the older Jacob have a brother named Matthias? That would open up a
new can of worms -- seems very unlikely.
6. re the will: Is Julia Keller Jacob's aka Matthias's sister? Maybe some sort of
clue to follow-up.
7. Is the name "Mathias Pair" clearly part of the original Will document or is
the information reformatted? Could someone have made a mistake years ago? Could the name
have been changed?
8. I have no alternate explaination for the biographical sketch of Thomas Jefferson
Parr's grandfather Mathias being from TN. My Matthias Parr fron Wilkes, NC did live in
TN for years before moving to Johnson CO, IN, but no children named Jacob. This Matthias
had a son named Abner who had a son named Matthias Parr born 1818 in TN - but he did not
have children - later moved to Johnson CO, IN.
9. The John Nelson Parr, physician and surgeon bio is very interesting, because it says
his grandfather was Mathias Parr born in Germany -- That doesn't relate to Jacob Parr
census records or my Matthias Parr line that came from England in the 17th century.
10. There is a lot of Jacob Parr - PA info on line. Pfarr was the original German
spelling.
Right now - I cannot explain why the three census records create one impression and the
biographies another. There must be someone out there who can help solve the mystery.
Let's stay in touch.
Bill
