Jacob Parr who was born abt. 1788 has a son named Jacob who was born in 1820. I see what
you mean about the PA. I have a copy of the will for Mathias & it shows his last name
as Pair. Listed in his will are son's Matthew, Jacob, David, John & son in law
Ephraim Smith. It also says "To my son John Pair I give all my real and personal
property, with the express condition, that I am to be well provided for during my natural
life together with an affectionate and good maintainence of my son Henry Pair who labors
under personal disibility. Also their Aunt Julia Keller whilet she may choose to live
with heir John. The will date is December 13, 1835 and Probated October 20, 1841. I have
not been able to find anything on son in law Ephraim Smith or Aunt Julia Keller.
I have a biographical sketch from Boone County on Thomas Jefferson Parr, son of John which
states Thomas Jefferson Parr's grandfather was Mathias Parr, who resided in Tennessee
on a farm. It lists Mathias children as David, Jacob(who was in the battle of Horshoe
Bend, where the death blow was given to the Creek Indians by Gen. Jackson, in March,
1814), Matthew, John, Henry (a cripple, who remained single).
I also have a Hamilton County Indiana Portrait And Biographical Record of John N. Parr,
M.D. another son of John Parr. It states the paternal grandfather, Mathias Parr, was born
in Germany and came to this country in a very early day. He was a farmer by occupation,
and settled in Sullivan County on a small homestead and married a young German lady, a
resident of Tennessee. Unto the grandparents were born four sturdy sons and two
daughters. The names of the daughters are unknown; the sons were in order of birth:
Jacob, Mathew, David, and John the father of our subject. Mathias Parr was well educated
in his mother tongue, and was a devout member of the Lutheran Church. He survived to
reach four-score years and calmly entered into rest, possessing the respect of all who
knew him.
Another sketch of Jacob Parr born in Sullivan County, East Tennessee, February 25, 1820.
He came to this state in 1831, stopping in Bartholomew County for two years, when his
father entered two hundred and forty acres of land in the southeastern part of Marion
Township, where he settled with his wife and eight children in 1833. This is in History
of Boone County Indiana.
I hope this helps a little.
Mary
