Shelby J. Padgett, father of Mrs. Elizabeth P. O'Neal, County Recorder and William
Padgett, Deputy recorder, died at his home in Jefferson Township, Tuesday morning. Funeral
services were held Thursday afternoon at the Reed Funeral Home in Cloverdale, with
internment in Cloverdale Cemetery.
He was born in Marion Township, Boone Co, Indiana, July 12, 1878, the son of C.C. and
Sarah B. Kemper Padgett. He established his first home in Putnam Co. on a farm in Floyd
Township. Later he resided in Monroe township, and a few years ago he moved to the farm in
Jefferson township, which was his last home.
Surviving besides the widow; who was Miss. Pearl Johnson of Kirklin before her marriage;
their two children; three brothers; Earl B. Padgett of Rockville, Joseph K. Padgett of
Lebanon, and A. L. Padgett of Indianapolis, two sisters; Mrs. Odessa Douglas of
Indianapolis and Mrs. Pearl Ramsey of Lebanon, and seven neices and nephews.
