Terrible Accident
"One of those distressing accidents that caused heartache occurred Tuesday, when
Kenneth, the little son of Tom Arnold, north of Danville, lost his right foot in a mowing
machine. The little fellow, twenty-three months old, just fairly toddling about, was
playing in the meadow. His wandering feet brought him to the front of the mower which his
father was driving. His father saw him, stopped the machine and jumped to save the boy. As
he jumped, the team started and caught the boy. The father yelled to the team which
stopped immediately, but too late. The bar had severed the foot which hung by a shred of
skin. Drs. White and Lawson were called but nothing could be done to save the
member."
