Hi fellow Boone researchers.
I am trying to track down information about my GGGF Samuel
M. Holmes. Here is what I know:
He was born 26 Oct 1804, m. Martha Anne Woofendale 13 Dec 1827, and
died 19 Feb 1857. Martha died 29 Feb 1858.
They had several children:
John H. *
William R.
Eliza Jane *
Charles W.
James D.
Tompson Bird
Joseph Franklin
Jacob R. *
Samuel Daly
[* died as an infant]
I found the family, save the last two children, in the 1850 Tippecanoe
County, Fairfield Twp census. Joseph is my GGF and was born in 1847 in
Tippecanoe County according to civil war papers.
Now for the Boone County connection. Joseph and Tompson B. show up in
Boone Cty census. Joseph in 1880 and 1900. Since Samuel and Martha
were both deceased by 1858 and Joseph was only about 11 at the time I
wonder if they were in Boone Cty by then.
I have been unable to find any record of Samuel's death other than the
Family Bible entry. I have looked in Tippecanoe County indices of
Cemetaries at TIPCOA and in the Feb, 1857 Journal and Courier newpaper
microfilm.
If there is anyone in Boone County who could look for a record of a
death or burial of Samuel and or Martha I'd appreciate it.
I live in Tippecanoe County, which is not far from Boone, but it is
too far for me to go there conveniently. On the other hand, I could
take a day to do so if someone could give me a good pointer on where
to go and where to look.
Thanks for any help.
