Replying to a couple of things
1) Death records--I spent an hour at the Boone County Health Department
last Friday. I came prepared with a list with exact date of death and they
have an index from 1882-1920 (other books they find by the years). Once I
was ready, they brought one book out at a time--not enthusiastically, but I
made lots of nice noises about how kind and helpful they were being. I got
about 15 records, made two connections I didn't have--all in all a very
worthwhile hour.
2) Dian Moore, the librarian in the Indiana room at the Lebanon library is
very helpful. I have been going there every couple of months for the past
eighteen months and she continually adds new stuff. She also seems to have
made a commitment to binding folders and paper bound books, which makes it
harder to xerox, but the information will stay in better shape and is
easier to find on the shelf. Be sure and check out her Boone biography
books. She laminates newspaper clippings alphabetically and indexes them. I
found a few very good obits and announcements. She has the Indiana 1860
census index on CD which is very helpful. I showed her my 1850 Indiana
census CD and I think she might order that. If you have lots of Boone
County connections, it is a very useful visit if you only have a day or so
to spend. There is an Oak Hill index,
too.
3) RE: Oak Hill IF you go when someone is in the office, they may give you
a map. I got one a couple of years ago when I was trying to find
Clicks/Paveys.

I want to thank all the nice researchers that provided information to me
recently to help me trace my Boone County CARR, WEST and EVANS families,
while I live overseas. Can someone tell me how I can obtain copies of the
various Boone CO. historical and biographical books that I have seen
excerpts of online? Some of the titles that I have knowledge of are:
"History of Boone County, Indiana," and " Early Life And Times Of Boone
County, Indiana." Perhaps there are others? Big thanks again!
Teresa

Does anyone have access to records of the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon IN?
I'm interested in Felicity Shulse Small in particular, any other Small's
interred there would be helpful as well. Thanks!

There are 71 Hawkins listed in the book "History of Boone Co., IN". Any
particular Hawkins you are seeking?

Found the following on page 191 of "History of Boone Co., IN" under a family
history of the Solomon Beck Jr. family. "....In 1852 Anderson Henry with his
wife, Narcissa
Shulse, came from Nicholas Co., KY to join other Shulse relatives, who had
started to come to as early as 1832, to Boone Co. Anderson and Narcissa Henry
had a daughter, Ceny, who married my grandfather, Josiah Uzal Beck. The Henry
family moved to Edgar Co., IL, near the Becks." Submitted by Edith Boyer
Schuman and Roger B. Beck.

I plan to be in Lebanon on Saturday. I will take a drive thru and see if I
can
spot any burial spots. The Mc Cord Cemetery is also nearby but most
stones
are
very old. Will try to check them also. You might write the PH
Sullivan
Genealogical Library and Museum in Zionsville, IN 46077 at 225 W. Hawthorne
St. They are very helpful.

Don't take this as gospel but I think since 1882 the State of Indiana has
required death records be kept. The county may have records prior to that, I
am not sure.
Marriage records thru 1850 for Indiana are on the Indiana State Web Site.

Is there anything in the Boone History about the John Fremont Stephenson
married to Mary Etta Fisher and their family? I have lots of

Is this site part of Rootsweb, or is it an independent state site? Or, in
other words, could you give the url?
Thanks!
