Subject: [INBOONE-L] Any HARMON/MILLER researchers?
I have just joined your list.
Only recently have I discovered my g grandmother as an infant living in
Boone Co in 1850. The head of household is William A. Harmon, age 24; the
lady is Elizabeth, age 24; with two children James N. age 1 [he was
actually almost 2] and Mary E. age 11/12 [and this probably should have
been 1/12].
A search of the Indiana Marriage database online gave me this
marriage: William Harmon married Elizabeth Miller 17 Jun 1847 there in
Boone Co.
I am sure this is the correct family because in 1910 when Mary E. applied
for her deceased husband's Union Civil War pension, James N. Harmon
testified:
"James N. Harmon, age 61, a resident of Zionsville, Boone Co, IN
and
postmaster of said town, stated that he was the brother of Mary E. Adamson
and he was present when she married Enoch R. Adamson some time in the
summer of 1868."
The 1900 Census has James N. Harmon with his family and his occupation was
listed as postmaster of Zionsville at that time, too. James' wife was
also
a Miller because his father-in-law was living with them. Her name
was
Martha; her father was William W. Miller, age 89, born in TN.
Reading through information on USGenWeb has revealed that both Harmon and
Miller families were among the first to arrive in Boone Co in the
1820's. According to a database on WorldConnect there was a James Harmon
who married Philadelphia Dickerson in Franklin Co IN in 1816; he died in
Boone Co in 1847. I suspect these may be the parents of the above William
A. Harmon.
Is there anyone on the mail list that can confirm or comment on any of the
above?
Thanks,
Kay Haden
