of young men for the last time, 27 August 1905. The funeral occurred at the home

George W. NEFF
Darlington has the distinction of having one of the best up to date graduate
veterinarians in this part of the state.
Dr. Geo. W. NEFF was born in Hendricks County, Indiana, and spent his early life on a
farm near Jamestown, (Boone County) Indiana. His early education was received in a
district school and the Ladoga High School.
He then entered the Indiana State Normal at Terre Haute, Indiana. At 18 years of age
he began teaching school in Jamestown, Indiana, which position he held for seven years,
when he was employed by the United States Government as assistant Meat Inspector and
Stock examiner. He filled the position satisfactorily for three years in Chicago, the
largest meat packing and stock market center in the world.
While here he had the opportunity to see thousands of cattle and hogs slaughtered
daily and to notice the effect of different diseases both before and after
slaughtering. At the end of three years he resigned this position to finish his study
in a three year Veterinary College. He graduated from college with second honors for
the gold medal, which was awarded the student having the highest average for three
years.
After graduating from College, he located in Darlington for the practice of his
profession. Since locating here he has been busy all the time and has built up an
excellent practice and has had good success. You will find him a gentleman, honest in
his dealings, and reasonable in his price.
