Subject: [INBOONE-L] Marriage license/affidavit info
Hi -Thanks for info. I actually have a copy of the marriage
license
(handwritten) and it says: "Be it remembered, that on the twelfth day of
February in the year A.D. 1844, a marriage license issued to Isac
Ballinger
and Elizabeth Phipps, both of Boone County. Male of lawful age.
Female,
parent's certificate filed proven by the affidavit of George Johnson, of
said
County of Boone". Then it goes on to indicate re the
marriage.
I am trying to obtain the parent's certificate and/or affidavit of
George
Johnson in the hopes of determining relationship and other vital
information
re her parents.
Based on the above info, do you think those documents are still in the
files? Does anyone know if the LDS ever filmed records from Boone County?
Thanks for any info. Carol K. in FL

Joe,
Indiana is not a state that required marriage bonds. You may not find
someone giving permission for an underage bride or groom, either.
Marriage returns were not universal. The license information that was
posted is all that you may find for that time period. You may have to
check the census, any surviving tax lists, and land records for persons
of
those surnames.
