Message Board Post:
I'm researching Elizabeth McCance (collateral line of my McCance family) and found her
married to a Silas W. Bennett in Boone Co., IN. Through census and marriage records plus
the "OneWorldTree" on Ancestry I discovered that Silas was married first to
Adaline Aldrich and apparently had 3 children; then he married Elizabeth and had several
more. Because the 1890 census is missing it's hard for me to pull the pieces
together.
The children I have by first wife Adaline are:
Nora (b. Dec 1874)
Carrie (b. Oct. 1876)
Otha (male, b. Dec 1879)
By Elizabeth I have:
Elsie Fern (b. Nov 1885)
Conza Blanche (b. Oct 1887, alive in 1900 census)
Charles Edward (b. Sep 1889, alive in 1900 census)
Ina Maud (b. Sep 1891; possible death record found for 6 May 1898)
Bruce K. (b. Dec 1893, alive in 1900 census)
Ruth Elizabeth (b. Jun 1896, alive in 1900 census)
I found four birth records online from the WPA works that reference 4 children born to
Silas Bennett and Elizabeth McCance. The three I can identify for sure are for Elsie Fern,
Ina Maud and Bruce K. Bennett.
The fourth record is a puzzle. Silas and Elizabeth were married 24 Aug 1884 in Boone Co.,
IN per all the online records I found. The puzzling birth record is for a male child born
to Silas Bennett and mother "McAnce" (McCance) on 26 Oct 1884 in Boone Co., IN.
This is only 2 months after their marriage. :-)
Are there any other records available that anyone knows of that might help identify who
this male child is? And are there more burial records available? I think I found Carrie
Bennett in a later census, but I'm looking for more info on first wife Adaline
(Aldrich) Bennett (when did she die), Elizabeth (McCance) Bennett (when did she die;
I'm guessing 1899 from the census info I found), and children Nora Bennett, Otha
Bennett, and Elsie Fern Bennett. I don't find them listed in the available death
records online that I've located, so I'm wondering if there are other records or
cemetery records that might have dates of death.
Thanks!!
