I'm looking for advice on ordering a probate record.
Someone on the list was kind enough to do a lookup for
me and found that my gggg-grandfather's estate was
probated in Boone County beginning in 1839. One the
Boone County website it give the address and the phone
number for the office to order the records from but
I'm not real clear on the fees. Here's what it says on
the site:
"Fees: Court document copies are $1.00 per page.
Certified copies are $2.00 per page. Standard copies
are 10 cents per page. Send request with a
self-addressed, stamped envelope. It may be necessary
to call the Clerk's Office first to determine if a
record is found, the book it's located in, and the
page/s it's on."
Is the probate records considered a "court document"
costing $1 per page to copy or is it considered a
standard copy? Has anyone ordered these records
before? Probate records can get pretty large
(especially since this person had half a dozen minor
children when he died). I'm wondering if I'm looking
at a record that's going to cost me $50 or $5... makes
a big difference on whether I'll order or not :)
