I have been researching a Boone County family: Daniel Baty/Beatty and his
wife, Nancy. They were found in the census there in 1840 and 1850:
1850 Census District No. 7, Boone County, Indiana; 20 Aug 1850
692/703
Daniel H. Baty [sic] 53 yo [b. 1797] Mail Carrier $425 b. KY
Nancy Baty 53 yo [b. 1797] - b. VA cannot read & write
Sarah Baty 24 yo [b. 1826] b. KY
William Baty 22 yo [b. 1828] farmer b. KY
John W. Baty 18 yo [b. 1832] farmer b. Ind.
Newall [Newell?] Batty 15 yo [b. 1835] farmer b. Ind.
Martha G. [?] Baty 11 yo [b. 1839] b. Ind.
Rebecca Strahan 27 yo [b. 1823] b. KY cannot read & write
Daniel Strahan 10 yo [b. 1840] b. Ind.
Serepla Strahan 4 yo [b. 1836] b. Ind.
George Strahan 2 yo [b. 1838] b. Ind
I suspect (but don't know for sure) that Rebecca was a married daughter of
Daniel and Nancy.
The on-line Indiana marriage records don't show many
Baty/Beattie/Beatty/Beaty marriage - not even for a Rebecca who might have
married a Strahan. Most of these children would have married after 1850
when - for the most part - marriages are not posted on-line.
I have no trace of anyone in this family after this 1850 census. I can't
believe that all of them died between 1850 and 1860!
Is there a genealogy/historical society in Boone County that I might be able
to contact regarding vital records of any sort for this family. I know that
the State did not require marriage, birth or death records until quite a bit
later - but am in hopes that there could be some local records or
information on this family in the genealogy society.
Thank you for any help or suggestions that anyone can give me!
