Hello,
I've queried the list about the Mechanicsburg cemetery for information
about the Thomas MCMULLEN family buried there. Now I notice in a VANCLEAVE
relative's charts that Thomas's mother, Margaret Ann DOUGLAS MCMULLEN
BUTTERY, was reportedly buried at Mechanicsburg c 1894.
However, I have a copy of a Lebanon Patriot article (obtained at the State
Library) for Thursday, July 4, 1895, under Mechanicsburg Items, that says,
"Margaret BUTTERY, an old resident of this place, died at her home Saturday
morning at 10:30 O'clock, of consumption. She was buried at Bethel Sunday
afternoon. This is the third member of the family to die within the last
three years with the same disease."
If anyone has Bethel cemetery records, I would appreciate knowing if she's
listed there. I know nothing about Margaret's (2) marriage to John BUTTERY
except that they were married in Feb 1882 in Lebanon IN by L M MCMULLEN,
Minister. Witnesses were David and Elizabeth MCCLAIN.
Interestingly, Margaret said on her marriage license that she was a
physician. I wonder if she was an herbal healer or midwife. Any insight
appreciated.
