Surname: WRIGHT
Lebanon Patriot

8th February 1866 page 2
Jackson WRIGHT was 18 years old in 1859, when he was sent to the Columbus Penitentiary for
one year and
escaped afterwards. He came back of his own accord the other day after an absence of seven
years, to fill out
his term being now twenty-five years old. The fact that he has become a married man since
his escape cannot be
regarded as the true reason of his determination to shut himself in jail.

MUZZLE THE DOGS-
Owners of dogs will take notice that hereafter the animals that run loose must be muzzled
with a wire muzzle
or suffer the penalties of the law. We could loose 999 dogs in Lebanon and have enough
left then.

GOOD-
By reference to an ordinance which we publish this week passed by the trustees at a
meeting held last Tuesday
evening it will be seen that every groggery keeper who takes out a license to vend the
poisenous (sic) stuff
will have to pay a Corporation license of three hundred dollars. They had far better made
it five hundred.

A WARNING-
Mr. Green MCDANIELs house in Thorntown caught fire last week from burning straw in the
fireplace. The
citizens rallied to his aid and succeeded in extinguishing the flames. A few moments
longer and all efforts to
save the building would have been fruitless. This certainly should be a warning to the
careless.

was printed with too much ink so the words bleed through to the other side. I have done my
best to be
accurate. I am related to ISLEY, HEDGE, DALE and SCOTT

Dr. MCGOWAN lectured in New York, on Wednesday evening upon the Indians. He estimated the
Indian population at
the United States at between 250,000 and 350,000. He predicted the entire extermination of
the red men in the
mining States and Territories within ten years.
Dear list members. Please do not be offended with some of the editor's remarks of the
Lebanon Patriot
Newspaper. Some of these stories I find very interesting. This is just a few from these
two newspapers. I did
not bother to type up the many snake oil remedies. I hope this will give you a flavor of
how Boone County,
Indiana was in 1866. Janet Price
