J. H. Hawkins, 78 years of age, a life-long resident of Boone county, passed away Friday
evening at 5:45 o'clock at his home, 604 North Lebanon street. He had been in fading
health for some time and his condition had been serious the past eight days. His death
was caused by heart disease.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Boone county, a son of William M. and Hannah (Griffin) Hawkins.
He was married August 21, 1882, in Lebanon to Mary Ann Smith, who died September 22,
1929.
Survivors are the following children: Mrs. Lillie Phillips and Eugene Hawkins of
Indianapolis; James H. Hawkins of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Maude Tanner, Walter Hawkins and
Miss Dorothy Hawkins of Lebanon; six brothers, William, Frank, Fred, David and Paul
Hawkins of Boone county; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wainscott of Lebanon and Mrs. Ocie
Small of Indianapolis; his step-mother, Mrs. Mary E. Hawkins of near Stringtown; and
eleven grandchildren.
The body will be taken to Bratton Brothers funeral home at twelve o'clock noon Sunday
and services will be held there at three o'clock, the Rev. Carl H. Barnett
officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
