Cathi,
Another very good source of information on the Clements family is at the Sullivan Museum,
Zionsville (Boone Co.) IN. I believe they have a website. The materials include a
"bio" of John ("Preacher John") Hathaway Clements. It says he was born
"10-12-1887" in Bourbon Co. KY, died in Hendricks Co. IN "01-23-1868".
His mother was Hannah Clements who brought servants/slaves with her to IN (Roger was his
father). After his first wife's death, he married "Rachel Rebecca Johns on
2-13-1848."
John, and his brother Phillip's first marriages were to the sisters, Nancy and Mary
'Polly' HIGHLAND (also HILAND), respectively, in Bourbon County KY. Per the
Hiland/Highland Bible, Nancy and John were married January 5, 1809. (This Bible record
will soon be published in The Hoosier Genealogist: Connections.) The sisters were
gr-gr-gr aunts to me.
The Clements family migration to Boone Co. in (apparently) the 1830's, resulted in the
later migration of at least one Hiland sibling of Nancy and 'Polly' (Samuel
Hiland), and numerous nephews, to the same area.
I suggest you contact the Sullivan Museum and see what items you can obtain there. After
that, feel free to contact me and see if I have anything additional. For example, I have
a group sheet for John's and Phillip's parents -- it probably came from that
museum. The materials are much more expansive than what is typically available to
researchers. Good luck.
