According to AniMap, and also the "1984 Boone County Indiana History," Boone was
created from the Adams New Purchase. The land was not, in typical fashion, taken from the
territory of other counties.
As noted in the latter (1984) source, the legislative action included the language
"An act for the formation of a new county north of Marion and Hendricks
Counties."
The same source also states that "For a few years prior to organization, however, the
Boone County area was, in effect, a "territory" of Hendricks and Marion Counties
for the purpose of civil and judicial administration."
So Hendricks and Marion had judicial responsibilities, but their borders were not reduced
by the creation of Boone.
The 1984 history has, of course, a much more detailed description about early Boone
history and early settlers.
