Ellen,
Thanks for the reply. Actually, I have already set the lower fragment of Lucretia
Kersey's stone and will be repairing and restoring her original stone this spring. I
think you will be very happy with it. Also, I will be re-capping the concrete base that
John Kersey has because it is not set square in the row of stones. I will also be setting
John Kersey's original marble stone next to the military marker. All the Kersey stones
that are down will be up by June. Unfortunately someone has ran over the Kersey military
marker with a lawn mower and took out a golf ball size of the granite marker's corner.
I can't find the fragment so I assume it was shattered. If you want to pursue
replacing the stone from the VA then I will reset the stone at no charge when it comes in.
In the meantime I will reset the current stone.
I assume you live in Columbus,Indiana. I am just about done with Carter's Chapel
cemetery on US 31 and Lowell road, just north of Columbus. It has about 160 stones and its
98 percent done. I will be continuing with the restoration of the township cemeteries in
Columbus twp including Lambert,Thompson,Garden City, and Mt Pleasant cemeteries this
year.
I also restored 16 stones in Marion twp,Boone Co., at Parr-Richardson cemetery in
December.
I believe John Kersey's infant is the earliest burial in Beck. I think it was a 1833
death date. That stone was reset this week.
Molly Riggs is the Center township trustee. Any thanks should go to her for understanding
the historical value of Beck cemetery and be willing to fund the restoration project. She
can be reached at her office (765) 482-1550.

Mark,
I am so glad to see that work will be done in the Beck Cemetery. I am a
Kersey descendent, and likely descended from the Hazelriggs as well. I
haven't researched the Hazelrigg branch of the family, but I am a direct
descendent of John Kersey and his wife, Lucretia. I am a member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, and was able to prove my lineage back
to John Kersey who fought the Indians in Northern Kentucky with Daniel
Boone. The Lebanon Chapter of the DAR has long recognized John Kersey as a
Revolutionary Patriot. His name is on the marker at the courthouse in
Lebanon, and his tombstone in the Beck Cemetery was placed there by the DAR.
I would like to see a new or much repaired stone for Lucretia Kersey. I
would be willing to contribute financially for this to happen. Her stone
looks very bad compared to his, and it seems that it should be upgraded.
Let me know how I can help with this.
I think that all of the Kersey graves are descended from John. He had
many children, they all moved to Boone County in the early 1800's, and he
followed them about 1830. I have a very old map of Boone Co that shows the
land owners in the early 1800's, and many of them are Kerseys.
I live in Columbus, my maiden name was Davis --- though I don't think
we're related --- and I grew up in Boone Co. My brother still lives on the
family farm in Marion Township.
Again, thanks for your work, and please keep me posted.

I just wanted to post to the Boone Co list that the restoration of
Beck
cemetery on US 52 north of Lebanon has begun. Funding by the Center Township
trustee will allow this cemetery to have most of the broken and down stones
repaired this year. Additional phases are scheduled for 2005 and 2006.
I would appreciate any input by descendants. I am always looking for info
on the
lives of the people who are buried there.
Some of the surnames are:

Shulse
Hazelrigg
