I would appreciate it if someone could look up a Boone county marriage record for Pamela Griffin, daughter of Anthony Griffin. She was born abt. 1831, so probably married in early 1850's. I have some indication she may have married an Anderson.
Hello List,
Another subscriber has sent me a reference to a book that has been
mentioned on this list regarding who might be the father of one of Rebecca
Bryan Boone's children.
He says: " The reference you want is: "Daniel Boone, The Life and Legend
of an American Pioneer", by John Mack Faragher, 1992. Specifically, refer
to pages 58 and 59 for the basis of the story, and the commentary by the
author. Faragher is a highly respected professor of history (at Yale when
the book was written). It is also a very fine read."
If you read the book you will find more than one candidate suggested as the
father.
The subscriber suggests another good book on early pioneer life as follows:
"Another good book by Faragher is "Sugar Creek, Life on the Illinois
Prairie". Really gives context as to how pioneer life was for our
ancestors in the early 1800's, in the midwest."
Sharon Mills
I don't mean to be unduly critical, but I would like to say very gently
that it seems unfair to impugn anyone's good name on the basis of what an
unknown book may have said. Much has been written about the Boones, and
if this was mentioned only once with no supporting evidence, is it a remote
or likely possibility?

I used to be a history teacher and one of the books I read on Daniel Boone
not only listed many offspring, it seems that Daniel was away from the home
fires just a little too long at one point....upon his return he found
another son whose father was Squire Boone, Daniel's brother....he is noted
as saying: "Oh well, it's all in the family."
Robin Neal Campbell
(whose husband is descended from the Mr. Boone in question)
Daniel Boone was born in 1734, died in 1820, married Rebecca Bryan in
1756. I'm reasonably sure they had several children. One daughter,
Jemima, married Flanders Callaway. Daniel's funeral was held at the home
of Flanders Callaway, and the sermon was preached by James Craig, who
married Daniel Boone's granddaughter (Delinda, daughter of Daniel's
youngest son, Col. Nathan Boone). I don't have the names of all of
Daniel Boone's family, but I'm sure someone on the Boone forum would.
There is a rootsweb forum BOONE-L(a)rootsweb.com for the Boone Family. The
Draper Manuscripts probably also give a lot of information about the
Boone family. The Boone Society is active in preservation of historic
sites related to the history of Daniel Boone. Many of the members are
direct descendants of Daniel or his close family.

And in a case like that, yDNA wouldn't be able to tell whether Daniel or
Squire was the father . . . . . since they were brothers they would have the
same yDNA pattern!
