Donald E. Pipes of Indiana was killed July 28, 1944, while serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea and his name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life and especially locate any family members still living so we can send them the free photographs of his grave site and the beautiful memorial in the Philippines.
I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County Indiana residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information of nearly a thousand servicemen from Indiana killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.
If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

I took advice from another online user and went in thru your Thorntown web site and hit the link to cemeteries. I had no problem going to the site that way .

Linda,
This is a great resource! Kudos to the folks who have
been working on putting this up! I hadn't visited the
Boone County library website before so this is all new
for me and I'm really impressed. I noticed that
cemeteries in other nearby counties are posted too.
For those who weren't able to find their burials in
the database, try checking the cemetery list.
http://www.bccn.boone.in.us/tpl/genealogy/cemeteries.htm
That appears to be incomplete right now but it does
give complete listings for the cemeteries on the list.
Very very useful info- THANK YOU!

I couldn't even open the site as given so I googled "Boone County, Indiana"
"Thornton Public Library" and came up with
http://www.bccn.boone.in.us/tpl/index.htm and from there I clicked on
genealogy. Really good cemetery link (even though none of my families of
interest seem to have buried in any of the county cemeteries!!).

Thank you for your response. They all lived in or near Brownsburg. Many are
buried in the Bethesda Cemetery there. On the 1870 census records he
(Philomen Jr.) lived in Middle Township of Hendricks County. I find Philomen
Sr. in Brown Township on the same census record. I do not have access to
on-line census records and need to find Philomen Sr.'s daughter and husband
Peter and Julia Hulsizer in Boone County, Indiana on the 1870 census record.
This is where he died in 1872. His will was filed in Hendricks county on
1/3/1872, Book 3 Page 290. I found Peter and Julia Hulsizer in the Bethesda
Cemetery but the father Philomen. What a mystery.

Do you know what part of Hendricks Co.,IN the Phillips resided?
There is Salem Cem. in Boone Co.,near Hendricks Co. and there is
a private cemetery near Fayette, IN and an older cemetery close by Fayette.
Also, you might contact marianndoyle(a)sullivanmunce.org at the P.H. Sullivan
Museum in Zionsville, IN (Boone Co,) They have many records on file
including family history records. Phillips is still a current name in
Zionsville. Zionsville is about 4 miles from the Hendricks Co. line.
Hello Meredith,
It's been some time since we corresponded, and after visiting
the Hendricks County Web Page you administer I just wanted to say thank you
very much. What a remarkable job you have done. I had not went to the site
for awhile as it is hard for me to find anything new in regard to my line as
I think I have found everything that is on line. To my surprise you have
added a lot of new resources for me to search. It really helped me with the
database of the Republican newspaper death index. Several of family members
were listed there that are not indexed on the database at the Plainfield
library. I am inquiring with them now to try and obtain copies of obituaries
that I surely thought must have been in some local newspaper, but could not
find them.
Please keep up the good work and I wish you could have some
influence on some of the other counties in Indiana to expand their web pages
to compare with yours.
