I'm trying to find information on Nicholas Edward Ailes who was born in July 1836 in is found in various spellings of his first name and of his last name in the 1870, 1880 and 1890 census.
Nicholas was born in Lewis Co., Ky to Thomas Aills and Ann Dyal. There were four children and the parents evidently died prior to 1850. Nicholas is found living with an uncle, Edward T. Doyle in 1850 in Indiana.
Nicholas and his wife Mary F were the parents of Eva Jane Ayles or Ales b 1856; Eliza A. Ayles or Ales b 1859; Thomas b 1863; Samuel b 1869 and Roy b 1877.
Any help would be appreciated on this family. You are welcome to write to me at San66Zen(a)aol.com and I'll share additional information I have.
Thank you, Sandra Zenger

Hi, I have a feeling that Adam C. may have remarried a third time also..as Martha P died,6 Jan 1871/81 then in the cemetery listing along with Adam C who died 11-4-1890 is a Angeline R who was born 10-2-1839 died 11-20-1905, they had at least two children..also the stone was unreadable, but there is a stone at the same cemetery (Browns Wonder) that has wife of Adam C, died 10-13-1862, possibly Nancy..
Now at Elizaville cemetery, is two children of Nancy and Adam C...One being an infant assuming born and died 3-30-1858 and a son Marion A. died 1-1-1856 age 2 months 12 days. I will check other records to see what else I may come across. I hope the above has helped.
You can contact me via email if you wish.

Message Board Post:
The line I'm researching for my son-in-law contains Samantha E. Kern, b. 17 Aug 1852 in Elizaville, Clinton Twp, Boone Co., IN. Samantha married Henry Wiley Howard, b. 8 Apr 1837, also from Elizaville. He has a pedigree, done long ago, showing Samantha's father as Adam C. Kern, b. abt. 1832 in IN. This makes sense: the census rolls show the Kern and Howard farms being next door to one another, and the 1860 census shows that Adam, b. abt 1832, had a daughter Samantha, age 7, which would be right. However, Adam's wife's name on this census is shown as Nancy M, b. abt 1834 in IN. (I later found a marriage record for 8 Sep 1849 in Lawrence Co., IN, that lists her last name as Feily.) This same census shows Samantha as the middle child, with older brother William C. and younger brother, Nelson E. still living at home as well.
Then in the 1870 census, Samantha is living with Henry Howard on his farm (presumably inherited from his father who was the listed owner on the previous census). Adam Kern is still next door, but now living with a woman named Martha P. I found a marriage record for Adam that shows him married to Martha P. Kersey on 26 Feb 1863. My guess now is that Nancy probably died and Adam remarried Martha.
I'm trying to find ancestors for Adam and Nancy. There are lots of postings for "Adam Kern" but most of these are too early and don't contain information that links this Adam with the other Adam Kerns in Boone County. If anyone could send information about this Adam's (and Nancy's) lineage or sources I might check, I would appreciate it very much.
Gale Leach
Thank you Jody for your help. Pat

No, I have the 1840 Indiana Index. The census up to 1850 does not give any
info other than name of head of household and approximent age and sex of
those in household.

I'm looking for any info I can find on Martin Broughard/Brouhard/Brohard. I
believe that he was b. in Hamilton Co., OH in the early 1800's. Probably
marr. there. He and his wife never appeared in any census. They had at least 3
ch. and d. in Boone Co., IN.
There is a Martin Brouhard in the 1910 census of Boone County, Iowa.... The
image on Ancestry.com is very dim, but it looks as though he is 74 years old,
but could be 79. He was born in Indiana, his father was b. Indiana, but
cannot tell where his mother was born...
He is living in the household of Nettie Ballingor.... that last name is hard
to read .... so could be spelled wrong.... Nettie is 43 and widowed and has
a daughter, Iola, aged 10
both Nettie and her daughter were born in Iowa
Nettie's parents both were born in Indiana
