Page 145: POEM THE OLD PIONEERS BY H.T. COTTON,
Zionsville, February 9, 1887
Oh, I love to read the story
Of the grand old pioneer.
Living in his little cabin
On the wild, wierd frontier.
Far away from native homestead
By childhood's memory blest,
When this goodly land of ours
Was a wilderness, out west.
Oh, I fancy now I see him
Sitting in his cabin door,
In the shadows of the evening,
When the hard day's work is o'er.
In the forest dark and gloomy,
Clustering all around his home,
Undergrown with briars and bushes
Where the bear and panther roam.
And the prowling wolf in shyness,
For the darkness lies in wait,
Whilst he sits alone in silence,
Dreaming of his native state.
All unconscious of the darkness
And the dangers lurking nigh,
Until wakened from his musings
By the panther's fearful cry;
Borne upon the night winds chilly,
Heard above the rustling leaves,
Then he blinds the little windows,
Just beneath the clapboard eaves.
Piles the rough wood in the corner,
On the heavy puncheon floor,
Draws the string in through the latchet,
Fastens well the oaken door.
Wife and children all around him,
Sleeps he 'til the morning sun,
Safe as any king in palace,
With his faithful dog and gun.
Honest hands by toiling hardened,
Honest hearts that knew no fears,
Oh, I love to hear the story
Of the grand old pioneers.

The following are the names of the company who left Eagle Village for
California,
March 15, 1852: Marion Patterson, James Duzan, George Harden, Henry French,
James N. Lee, Issac Cotton and Samuel Harden.
History of Boone Co., IN compiled in 1984 by the Boone County Historical
Society and Friends:
Page 8: "Also in the third term, a Sugar Creek Township man was charged with
stealing five hogs valued at seventy-five cents each from a neighbor. He
entered a plea of not guilty when arraigned in the October 1833 session held in the
log courthouse. A jury consisting of Theophilus Bryan, Jacob Skeen, Daniel
Turner,
William H. Marsh, Samuel Reese, John H. Nelson, David Daily, William Farlow,
Robert Thomas, Edward Herndon, Fielden Denny, and Benjamin Sweney, acquitted
the defendant...."
Page 62: Ron A. C. Daily is mentioned as part of the first library board
selected at a meeting on Oct. 8, 1902.
Page 148: Pertaining to Sugar Creek Township Cemeteries: "...Sugar Plain

Page 148: Samuel Daily is listed as a Thorntown postmaster with an
installation date of February 18, 1847

part, it states that Lorenzo C. Dougherty (1820-1876)....."He met with A. C.

There is also a photograph of A.C. Daily in Early Life and Times in Boone
County,
Indiana, 1887 between pages 384 & 385.
I believe I earlier gave you his Civil War info, correct?
From History of Boone Co., Indiana compiled in 1984 by Boone County

Page 89: Pertaining to Eagle Township it reads in part: "...Some of the
pioneer ministers of the gospel were James Mc Coy, George Dodson, Issac Cotton,
Robert Thomas, George dye, George Boroman, William Kliner and William
Guouge.."
Page 184: Pertaining to the Robert and Geneva Atkinson family of Zionsville.
".....Robert K. was born in Cynthiana, KY., to George Verling Atkinson and

the noted octogon 3-story house on Ash Street which is now Bailey Court...."
Much more on the Robert and Geneva Atkinson family.
This is part of my family Issac Cotton and Gilla Stultz, does it say anymore
about them?

I also have a lot of information on the Byroads from Ohio. They are my
ancestors on My Mother's side. They came from Darke County, Ohio to
Illinois and on to Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana. Not sure where they
came
to Ohio from. PA. I think.

Thanks for the response! Margaret Large Neese Bullock's third husband was
her cousin, John Byroad. I have been tracing them all from Ohio.

Hi,
I haven't been active this winter at all, so I thought I'd put my names out
there again.
My lines are:
Aaron B. Large who married Margaretta Waganick Death in Dark Co., OH in
1851(I believe, I don't have all my records with me) through their
daughter, Margaret Rosan Large (Mc)Neese Bullock, who's second husband was
my g-grandfather, William Edward Bullock, son of James P. and Cynthia Dale
Bullock. Margaret and William Bullock's daughter was my grandmother,
Stella Bullock Taylor Gossett, who married Ed Gossett in 1905 in Boone Co.
Cynthia Dale was the daughter of Squire and Elizabeth Smith Dale.
