I posted this obituary several months ago and left off the last few paragraphs.
For those of you who I have sent the obituary file to, please add the missing
ending.
Surnames: ROSE, HILTS, EWING & CONOVER
ADVANCE HERALD
ADVANCE, (Boone County) Indiana
Friday, 8 July 1921 Page one
MRS. JENNIE V. ROSE
Jennie Virginia HILTS was born near Springdale, Ohio, 25 April 1846, and was
there fore a little more than seventy-five years of age at the time of her death,
which occurred Monday morning, July 4th. She is survived town, and one
grandson,, Edward P., of Thorn-by a sister,, Mrs. Minnie EWING, of Pitsburg
(sic),, PA., and a brother, Samuel HILTS, of San Francisco, CA
(I believe the typesetter got confused. All of his work is done in reverse.
Perhaps he got a bit confused because the sentence does not make sense. I think he
meant to say; She is survived by one son, Edward P., of Thorntown, and one
grandson, by a sister, Mrs. Minnie EWING, of Pittsburgh, PA. and a brother, Samuel
HILTS, of San Francisco, CA)
Early in life she went with her parents to Towanda, in the vicinity of
Bloomington, Ill., and there, when she was a little girl of six, the first great
sorrow of her life overtook her. Her mother died. Some years afterwards she went
to Bloomington and made her home with her sister, Mrs. Mary CONOVER, who, with her
husband, conducted a young ladies seminary in Bloomington. She was especially
interested in the courses in music and instructor in music in the seminary.
Rev. H.L. DICKERSON, who was pastor (sic) o (sic) this more than fifty years ago
and has long since gone to-time, but the passing of half a century shows that
momentuous (sic) conquuences (sic) sometimes follow little acts. He introduced his
young friend, Dr. Madison H. ROSE, to Miss Jenie (sic) HILTS, and when they were
married sometime later he prevailed on them to make their home in Thorntown. 1868,
and came to Thorntown the following April (typed as printed in the newspaper)
Fifty two years ago last April they took up their residence in the house where
Mrs. ROSE has made her home all these years. At first Dr. ROSE ..years he
succeeded to the sol charge of a medical practice, which was very exciting in
those days before the event of good roads and automobiles. Dr Rose died 16
December 1904.
Mrs. Rose lived a singularly full life. Her life was full of joy, and sorrow.
Only one of hher (sic) children was spared to minister to her in old age, her
firstborn and he has been very kind and thoughtful. Five children have been laid
away in the grave by this mother. In order of their birth they are Lawrence S.
Deceased 25 December 1901, Dwight H. deceased 24 October 1898, Eugenia, deceased
28 March 1903, Idelette, deceased 27 April 1882, and Will, deceased 8 May 1909.
While the children lived there was much laughter and music in that home. Altho
their voices have been stilled in recent years, the life of this god (sic) woman
has not been empty. She has continued to take her lively interests in her
neighbors, in her church, in her community and in affair generally. In few homes
in this community were a larger number of first class publications taken, and
read, than in her home. Ever since her marriage she has made it a rule to read her
Bible through from cover to cover once a year, and she has read it through at
least fifty-one times. On the margin of the last page of her Bible these words
were written, - For now I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure
is at hand. I have fought a good fighth (sic) I have finished my course, I have
kept the faith: henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteous which the
Lord, the righteous judge, shal (sic) give me at that day, and not to me only, but
to all them who love his His appearing. II Tim. 6:6-8
Also, As for me, I will behold thy face in righteous; I shall be satisfied when
I awake, with thy likeness. Ps. 17:15.
Death came after a brief illness. Services were held in the Presbyterian church
Wednesday afternoon byy (sic) Rev. H.N. RONALD, Rev. C.C. Harold, of the M.E.
Church, assisting. Interment at Maple Lawn.
Cards of thanks- The true friendship so deeply experienced by you, dear friends,
to mother, is too great for us to tell you how we appreciate it. Mother would say,
and we join her, May you share Gods richest blessings. And we be of sincere in
an ever ready willingness to share your anxiety and sorrow as you did ours. Most
earnestly yours, Ed Rose and family

Lyde Pratt Accident
Miss Lyde PRATT met with a very painful accident Tuesday morning while preparing
breakfast. She was steeping coffee in one of those molasses cans, which has an
airtight fitting lid. And when she went to raise the lid with the point of a
knife, the steam, which had accumulated much pressure, blew the most of the
boiling coffee in her face, scalding her face all over most severely. She
immediately applied remedies to extract the burn and is recovering from its
effects in good shape. Her severe experience should serve as a warning to other
cooks as the way they use those kind of cans.

- George HICKS rides a velocipedel he does! On Saturday a little son of Mr.

The boy dodged to the right and then to the left, but George went to the same
direction, and seeing that the boy could not get out of the way, George put on
full steam to butt the boy off the tract. The little boy doubled up and prepared
for the conflict, when the machine went over him without doing any other damage
